Very nice. It has a little taper but that can be fixed. Too small for me though. :D

MattDeckard, you're brave.

That white Stetson looks like a 50s hat. Looks kind of wool, too.

aha...just saw the 'rolling-and-laughing smilies' under your post James. I should have realized you were posting it tongue-in-cheek.

Matt Deckard

I think its a fur myself.

I'd wear it and like it!

I don't see too many vintage cowboy hats, and would like to find a good one from the 40's

I have a 60's Shady Oak from Peters Brothers but it's too tight and too 60's for me. I need to be wearing a plaid shirt and be clean cut in the hair department to pull it off.

Ok, how about this one?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8129956449
I know that it is around 22" according to the seller. It has an interesting sweat band inside, has an interesting color ribbon and what looks like the original box.
Yeah H, I was kidding. It might be fur, may have a Cav edge and it might even be from the 50s but it just doesn't do much for me but maybe someone could make it look good for them. ;)

J

I think I'll pass though
I have a similar one colorwise that just needs to be cleaned

Looking at it closer, it might be interesting to have just to check it out---that and it is my wife's size anyway. If it stays cheap I just might put a bid in. ;)

The white wooly is a pimpin' hat!

You should get it.

I would but it would ruin my rep as a person with taste

jamespowers

Well the White Wooly says it is "BEAVERX3 QUALITY AND STETSON" so.... The curiosity is killing me anyway. It will be worth it just to feel it and check it out. LOL

You have see the picture of me in the Hawaiian shirt haven't you? LOL LOL Maybe I will be lucky and it will have a Cav edge and money under the ribbon. LOL

Hmmmm.

That Dobbs is kind of nice.

I wonder what size it is...?

jamespowers
09-09-2004, 02:15 PM
The lady tells me it is about 22 inches around the inside. That would be about a size 7; I think. She cannot find the tags under the sweatband but you know you would have to just about be right next to her showing exactly where they are with most "hat dumb" people. LOL

Hmmmm.

I would go for that hat if I weren't saving up for a suit from Art.

That's a nice one.

I guess we'll see how the dough flows in the next couple of days.

I'm actually a German oval

equates to long oval with a Herman Munster squared off forehead

jamespowers

In that case, I think this one will fit you:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14065&item=8130255095&rd=1
LOL LOL
These people are so ridiculous. That is a woman's hat not a mans! Could you imagine seeing a man walking around with that?
H, Portis hats are very nice if you get the right quality. The previously listed one looks to have a bit of quality to it. I will live vicariously through you guys that can find hats like that in your size.
I Probably have Herman Munster's head size--not just the oval. LOL

Yep, the dang thing won't fit but I just want to check it out. It probably really was a "gangster's hat." He would have to be to get away with wearing it. LOL Do you know what head size Capone was? ;)

I think I inflated the price of the Banana Republic hat... it's over $7 now and rising!

jamespowers

You're kidding!
Wait, let me look. Yep, $7.50. I do not believe anyone here would bid on something like that. You could pick up one of those at a Goodwill or Salvation Army for $1. Nah, it can't be someone here. This is a classy joint. :D

Yeah, I'm kidding.

for refference i don't put the happy faces up in real life either.

That white Borsy is from Pasadena. That hat's got history.
You're right, I think it would fit Havershaw too (hint hint).

I don't think we are influencing much because this one went without a single bid:

I almost bid on that...but I have a lot of brown hats.

Plus, I just won two Borsalinos in the last week (one of which was brown, yes). I've really slowed down on the hats because I have so many, and I tend to wear the same six all the time, and only wear the others every couple of weeks.

It must be nice to buy a hat sight unseen and be reasonably certain it will fit. With a 7 1/4 long oval to extra long oval head, that just doesn't happen. Yep, the doctor really used the salad tongs on me. :D

Gee, will a regular 7 3/8 fit? Sometimes if you go to the next size the hat will fit because the circumference of the hat is simply larger.
I have only see one vintage Extra Long Oval and fortunately I did because it was a 7 1/2 Extra Long Oval that fit my regular 7 5/8 head. ;) That is why I mention choosing the next size. Works for me. :D

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=52369&item=8132171926&rd=1
Its a nice hat with a Guild Edge but still not quite big enough. I suppose you could take it to a hatter and get it fitted if it goes for a reasonable price though. :D

Thanks for looking, James. :)

The crown on that one is a little big for my taste.

I'm look for something with a smaller crown and about a 3" brim. Maybe in a pecan color.

We have already had three mornings of frost. It's about time to start thinking of a lid. ;)

Tom

Havershaw, you should try and bid on that Borsy! That hat is really rare.

I would if I were a size 7.
