Alas, I'm only old-school on the outside:

black jeans, black lambswool crewneck (both LL Bean), black New Balance walking shoes

seal brown Flight Suits M-422A jacket and light brown tweed B!wear newsboy cap.

I know - black and brown shouldn't work together, but I think it makes a dramatic contrast.

It's very sunny but quite cold today in the northern NYC burbs - it was only in the high 20s when I left for work this morning.

Three-piece suit made from 15 ounce twill worsted. Not vintage, but woven the old fashioned way. The vest is eight button DB with big wide shawl lapels. Again, not vintage (made this year) but old fashioned. Looks something like the suit on the right:

I am repro more than vintage...

1930's inspired tea length black & cream plaid skirt, Black peek a boo platform heel - these shoes are dead sexy, I almost swooned when I found them - and a black turtle neck sweater.
Pearl earrings and a bracelet made out of vintage type writer keys - sounds weird but it is very cool.

today- I didn't have any time in the morning, so I wore my '70's reissue Zippy the pinhead T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a stingy brim gray cavanagh.

See- today was the due date/deadline for an AP english project. I ended up typing 12 pages of analysis, and finding 40 pages of articles related to "Brave New World". I worked from 2:30- a bit past midnite. I was exhausted this morning.

Yesterday I wore my early '50's gray Lee hat with gray/gold binding and ribbon, a white shirt with a '50's red tie, dark grey pants, and my PF flyers ringsides.

It's going to be terribly warm today in Sydney (mid-30s centigrade), so I've had to dress for that - I'm wearing my favourite pair of black slacks and a sleeveless wrap top with a black and white pattern that looks Victorian influenced. It's not vintage, but it will keep me relatively cool!

Green tweed Jonathan Richard newsboy with the big dumb top button pulled off. (Not easy to do.)
English tan perforated cap-toe Timberland waterproofs. They look classic until you see them from the side. Then you see the stamped tree logo and the false arch – the sole just narrows slightly on each side. They're comfy as all get-out.

Just another day at work for me. Safari shirt from Cabela's, Orvis briar pants (it was crazy windy, and nothing gets through these pants!), J.Crew Ruggeds, canvas Orvis short jacket, and my Akubra Flinders, which I recently modified with an RCMP hatband to replace the way-too-western braided hatband. Pretty much the same everyday, since I never know when I may go on a snake call (well, that was pretty unlikely today, since it was 23 degrees when I got up this morning!), dig through a box of artifacts, or go out to the field. As it turned out the most strenuous thing I did all day was comb-bind a report (interestingly, Marc, it was the first report to come out of the Range Creek Canyon (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A19415-2004Jun30.html) study. Great stuff!).

Hello, I am new here-

Usually, I am a bow tie and suit guy, but the year is winding down, and i felt more casual today.

Gray gabardine slacks, black wool turtleneck, black wingtips with white stitching, black cashmere, full overcoat, olive and black shemagh and my new stetson chocolate/olive fedora.

I am new to the forum and I am still searching the threads, but I came here to learn more about hats. My first was a steel grey Stetson fedora, new, ten years ago. Since then I have had a Bailey, and a straw porkpie, not to mention all my boonies and caps. I just want to learn more. My new chocolate Stetson is actually 'vintage'- whatever that means. It has a great hand, fine finish and is marked as beaver. One of the nicest hats I have seen in a while, but it could be from the 70s for all I know.

Anyone here heard of a conformulator? Got to try one out in a custom hat shop in Albuquerque this year.

Looking forward to this forum...

My navy blue with white polka dots lane bryant dress circa 1946 (which is actually in one of my catalogs :D ), red baby doll pumps, red swing coat, navy gloves and scarf. Hair in rolls, navy snood, red flowers. Actually, there is this lady at my job who always asks about my clothes and gets upset when I tell her something is 50 or 60 years old. I think she thinks I'm playing games with her. lol

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

A 3/2 sack is short for a three button roll to two sack suit. It's basically the old Brooks Brothers/J Press style with no darts. The third button rolls under the lapel and is not meant to be buttoned.

Here's today's get up:

Paul Stuart suit
Truzzi shirt (Attack of the Spread Collars!)
Paul Stuart tie

It will be open to the public, yes! Thanks for the interest!

It will be very small, I'm afraid. The primary function is just curation, so the bulk of the building is a huge room filled with wire shelves and brown cardboard boxes. The next smaller room is unprocessed collections and archival materials (photos, reports, field records, etc.), also all in brown cardboard boxes, but includes a small display of the fossil jaw of a Harlan's Ground Sloth (http://www.tarpits.org/education/guide/flora/sloth.html) (1.8 mya). The central hallway has some display space, which will include the fossil foot and plastron of our extinct giant tortoise, Hesperotestudo, Native American artifacts, and a video kiosk on the history of Condor Field, the Army Air Forces glider training facility that preceded the Marine base. However, if you are in the area visiting Joshua Tree National Park, which has its headquarters right here in 29 Palms, it might be worth stopping by!

Custom made gray fedora by Wasika's of Cudahy, Wis.

Cudahy is one of those small towns that you can enter and get the sense that it hasn't changed at all since the golden era. I am, however, unfamiliar with Wasika's.

Today:
Early 1940s? double-breasted suit. Heavy, stiff wool. Dark navy blue with a subtle burgundy checked pattern. Nice crease in the sleeves. It's quite a nice suit, but one I have not worn often. When I found it, one of the pant cuffs were frayed a bit...my tailor fixed it up nicely.

Creme colored dress shirt. Vintage tie...1940s. Very conservative compared to most of my 1940s ties. The tie has cremes, navy blues & burgundys. Pocket square...burgundy with navy blue trim.

Allen Edmonds Park Avenue shoes in Merlot.

1940s wool overcoat. Camel color. Double breasted with half-belt on back. VERY heavy & very warm.

We really need pictures!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with earlier poster who said this. It would be really great to actually see how people put themselves together. Kudos to those of you who are already doing this!

The variety of styles represented here is staggering and I think it would wonderful to see all of the different approaches. It would be helpful to those of us who are still a bit bewildered about how to incorporate the styles we love into practical, day-to-day clothing, and it would give examples of what colors work together, which patterns "go," what syles work with what body types, etc..

If it takes a few days to put the pictures up and it is more of a "What were you wearing two days ago..." sort of thing, it would still be interesting to see. Even blurry, "I took this in the bathroom mirror" pics would be better than nothing, and if you're too shy, just take a picture of your clothing ensemble laying out on the bed or something.

I know I'm being a hypocrite here, as I haven't posted any pics yet, but I think this thread has great potential, and I will contribute to it as soon as I get the chance.

Now go out there and fire up those cameras!

Griemersma...this is also my typical winter wear when running around after work or on the weekends. Lately, it's been cold & messy. Temps in the low 20s (F) & plenty of snow. Lots & Pendleton/Levis/Chippewa boots/newsboy days for me lately. My biggest wardrobe weakness, however, is a quality leather jacket. I've had the cheap highwayman-style jacket from the GAP given to me as a gift 15 years ago. To the ignorant, it looks okay. To me, it looks sloppy. I just haven't got myself to pull the trigger on a decent leather jacket yet. Every time I think I'll do it, my money instead goes to shoes or sports coats or gab shirts or vintage pants or.....?

Today I was told by a coworker, "you look dressed up today." (This by a coworker who regularly comes to work in badly fitting khakis with Birkenstocks...I really don't need to see his feet at work!)
Early 50's gray trousers
White dress shirt
Blue v-neck sweater vest
Black Covington Allen Edmonds
Dressed up? Hmm.

Today I ran out of clean jeans to wear, so I HAD to wear a skirt, even though I have class & don't really enjoy walking around on campus wearing heels all day.

I'm wearing:

- a vintage, wool, plaid (greyish light pinks, greyish blues and grey) pleated skirt
- nude self-seam seamed stockings from Magnolia
- brown VI Aerosoles pumps
- blue VI knit Forever 21 top
- vintage blue belt I stole from a 40's dress of mine
- vintage beaded cardigan

Maybe I'll take some pictures later!

It's a simple day of (MORE) house cleaning and laundry for me, so I will be doning my finest raggity red day dress for my chores. It has holes and is missing the 5 bottom buttons... I will also be going bare foot... as it is a nice day out and I like walking through the grass to get to the laundry room. Yay!

herringbone german 30s SBPL, herringbone 30s trousers, blue/white striped Tom Sawyer 30s boys shirt (sometimes it helps to be able to jam into a 13.5 benecked shirt), brown/cream/white striped 30s tie. Modern suede shoes. And yes, the soles of the shoes are rubber soled. Helps in the snow. I was worried about how the grey of the jacke would combine with the brown of the trousers, but it seems to have worked okay:

Well I meant to post this yesterday but I was wearing a black sweater, yellow dress shirt of unknown vintage (70s? But with a nice collar) 1955 Levi 501s, brown AAF shoes, brown socks with sporty print.

Honestly, today it was white T-shirt, blue shirt featuring Mr. Rogers and the qoute "It's all good in the 'hood, 70s Levi western style(mother of pearl snaps) tan shirt, brown corduroy jacket, modern wide leg Levis, Onitsuka Tigers (white with green stripes).
I apologize for today. Sometimes I just wanna dress like a hipster. Maybe I should invest in a black turtleneck?
