I've always loved hats & I am glad I found this forum.
My question might sound a bit odd, but here goes.

I have a long neck & a giant long oval head. (Think Hindenburg)
Should someone with a long neck wear a wider brim hat?
Being a 7 3/4 to 8 head, depending on the maker, I usually just wear what fits.

I feel your pain; I'm a 7 7/8 to 8 long oval myself. There are guys here who know a lot more than I do about this sort of thing (paging Mr. Fawcett), but this link may help some.

Welcome to the Lounge Chucklehead
This is pretty much a universal question. I would urge you to look past just the head & neck and see what kind of shaped body, shoulders, etc. In a very general rule of thumb, taller guys with wider shoulders can wear a wide brim better than us short guys with narrow shoulders. About the most brim I can pull off is 2 3/4. Now, if your head doesn't equate to your overall body you might want to spend some time at John Helmer's shop in downtown Portland trying on different styles & shapes just to get a feel for what the best shape for you is. Since most production companies don't offer LO options anymore you might consider a custom for fit considerations, but that really needs to be done after you pretty much know what looks best on you.
Good luck and happy learning. To me, that's the fun part.
