i just heard this marvelous song tonight on the radio...

kenny smith and the westerners

"arizona we will never part"

the dj was playing a set of old songs about arizona
(i'm in tucson). i just adore the song but cannot find
any information online about kenny smith nor that song
in particular.

is there any sort of database or online reference around for
obscure 1940s/1950s early country ?

the song is really swell and i MUST find a copy.

Dunno, usually I go and rob my dad's collection of LPs when I want anything like that. I know places like Hastings will look it up and do a special order for you if it's on a collection that's available, and most times the radio stations will tell you what album it's on so you can get it.

Not long ago, Joe Bussard had an amazing site full of not only a database of rare 78's, 45's and LPs (mostly bluegrass and country) but also a service for selecting tracks to fill a CD and then he'd burn them and send them out to you. I wanted to post the link for you here, but it just isn't 'quite' the same site any longer. Not sure what happened to it, it's a real shame that the full site is gone, however if you go to the track listing for the box set CD he's advertising now, there's a great list of some really wonderful country music.

If you scroll down a bit at the link below, there are links to text files of radio playlists (some wonderful stuff there!)

Additionally, if you're new to a lot of that early stuff, here's a few essentials for the new Country Swing fan:
