I saw a behind the scenes special of this shoot last night on television, and wanted to share with the members of this community since the cover is a very heavy throwback to the 1940's/1950's.

That is one of the best covers they've done in a looong time. I approve.

I think she's the girl in the American version of The Office.
Great photo but the lady in the swimsuit does not fit in at all.

Amy Adams was Katy in The Office for a few episodes, and was in last year's Enchanted alongside Patrick Dempsey. I really liked her in Junebug, myself.

That's actually Jenna Fischer. Amy Adams was the star of the fairly recent Disney hit "Enchanted".

I wish they'd put a skirt on that poor girl in the middle :( It's like she's at a party with her pants out. I think in the cover picture Amy Adams look s bit like Clara B from FL.

there are two ladies in swimsuits so I assume you mean the middle one, no?
she doesn't look incongruous at all to me, and the hair and the drape of fabric behind her bring it all together
plus she has great legs
sixsexsix
02-07-2008, 06:43 AM
yes i mean the one in the middle. the girl on the main page (emily blunt?) is in a swimisuit but it's much more subtle.
the girl in the center just seems like legs in a group of dresses. i wish they either put her in a dress or sat her down.

The girl in the middle in the swimsuit is Thandie Newton (sp?).
At least this year's "Hollywood" issue is better than last years....which featured a completely clothed, alarmingly furry-chested Tom Ford with two nude actresses (Knightly and Johannson).

Her name is Zoe Saldana, . Her most recent hit was Haven as Orlando Bloom's love interest.
I dont really care for the cover. I dont like their body language.

I have to agree with Lady Day, I'm not very fond of this cover either. I don't like their body language and the whole color scheme.

What looks odd to me, is all of their faces are going to the right. And a couple are dead in the middle.. none to the left. It's like they are all competing for the same pose. But I like the hair.:)

Who wears gloves with a swimsuit? And whose shoe is that at the bottom right?
In general, I like it, though.

Hmmm... why are all the people of any ethnicity all after the fold?
I'm with LD on this one (Lady Day not Larry David ;)) it's a little... off. Very pale and wan, submissive. But I do like the look in Amy Adams' eyes!

I don't know that I really have a favorite, but I think Keira's is my least, probably tied with North by Northwest, with Seth Rogen(who I've never even heard of), which is pretty atrocious, IMHO.

I Don't mind the "Hitchcock" style spreads.
I think that Seth Rogen is the lead guy from "Knocked Up".

The problem with Seth Rogen is that he doesn't exactly exude the older movie star quality... yet. Give him some time. Robert Downey, Jr., despite being in another picture in Grant's place, would have been a better choice.
Lady Day

I dont know, I dont get such a big woop over the spreads. It does not take much to recreate something that was already great to begin with. Its like doing remakes of these great movies (*ick).
I would just like to see originality.
Some actors here exude a "Vintage Hollywood" ascetic in their modern existence (Robert Downey Jr. comes to mind  ).
*sorry to be a thread crapper :o

Anyway, this issue looks neat. I like recreations in art. I think I'm gonna get this.

Actually, you know who I would have really liked in the North by Northwest picture? George Clooney.

Oh, I'm lookin'! ;) lol I agree, Clooney's always reminded me of Grant, and he would've been a natural choice.

The copies of Hitchcock seems like it could work fine but most of the people just seem badly cast for the recreations. For me that includes Downey Jr. He can have classic movie style but I thought he wasn't right for that shot, especially that facial hair.
Last year's Vanity Fair Hollywood issue worked better for me. The film noir homage allowed the actors they wanted to showcase to be "types" but still have some originality.
Sincerely,
The Wolf

Yes! Thats how I mean to say it. Mimic the era, not copy the actor of the era.
Thanks, man.

Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt look like godesses on this cover!
I maye buy this issue of Vanity Fair!
Here's another Vanity Fair cover that's very vintage-y...:

Harumph - why we didn't get more face of that cutie McAvoy I just don't know!
I liked the Birds and Lifeboat. I'm so tired of Scarlett Johansson. Every movie she's in tanks. Why can't they seem to figure out it's because she's bad? lol
Keira is too hard looking for Rebecca - she looks as mean as the creepy housekeeper who's character name is escaping me. Amy Adams would have been a marvelous choice for that one.

I loved the photo for Strangers on a Train. Even though most remakes bite the big one, I couldn't help my excitement. Just think about all the sexual subtext that got left out of the original that could get left in now! Imagine James Mcavoy's creepy crush on Emile Hirsch! Think of the increased violence possible in the murder scenes!
.....sorry, went a little Hitchcock!fangirl there.

My favorites were the Strangers on a Train and Rebecca layouts (Jennifer Jason Leigh would be a fabulous Mrs. Danvers!).
On the cover spread it cracked me up how uncomfortable Ellen Page looked (she's sitting 6th from the left in the grey dress). It's so not her to be all gussied up.

Hmm, interesting that Emily Blunt is featured. I first saw her in Poirot and Foyle's War! So in my mind she really fits in with the whole retro theme... more so than the rest of them! Garnered her a lot of respect with me... (I am a big fan of both Poirot and Foyle's War).
ETA: By the way, the woman in the swimsuit and hat at the top IS Emily Blunt. I actually think she is the only one to fit in... ;-) er, rather... fabulously stand out!
Jovan

Unfortunate, because Ellen Page could very well be the next big thing in movies. Oh well, just give her some time on the red carpet and she'll be more confident. ;)

The housekeeper's name is Danvers (I think). Her nickname was "Danny".
