Hello,
I am looking for a leather flight type jacket, no epaulettes, no gussetts under the arms, not a tight fit, leather collar, somewhat roomy..any suggestions for a quality item.
Thanks

Maybe you're heading towards the Indy jacket or similar.

Maybe something like a Highwayman from Aero, or you could ask them to make you an A-2 without the epaulettes (or pockets for that matter). All things are possible.

Thanks guys...no, not an indy jacket, and I looked at the aero on line and not ready to spend $500 or more on a flight jacket, not yet anyway.....we'll see. Thanks again

I don't want an Indy jacket either- it's just that it's vaguely based on a vintage flight jacket style- that was all- Indy style, not an 'Indy Jacket'.
Considering that you probably don't want to go down to the local 'Mall' and sample their wares- vintage may be an option but again-prices can get big.
The contemporary civilian style jacket market probably isn't up to muich in the quality stakes either. A looser fitting flight style jacket that is 'nice' is becoming a difficult concept.
A flight jacket without epaulettes or the other norms and is loose fitting is probably not really a flight jacket style at all.
Do you have an image in your mind of what it is that you want?
Is it roughly the shape of an A-2 or G-1? If not, flight jacket idea might be a red herring. A 'flight jacket style' that is loose doesn't sound so stylish...
Give us some clues as to what this desired jacket could look like and maybe the experts here can find you something appropriate...

...any of these styles interesting to you?
Cheers!

How about something more along the lines of a commercial pilot's jacket? Less binding fit than a military flight jacket and not replicating a specific historical version, but still darn nice. There are plenty of these around, and from a wide range of manufacturers. For example, this one from Flight Suits:

BT and Doc..
the first ebay one is probably closest, I even looked at the FS CWU as an alternative but it has those gussetts under the arms and the reps are not very good about getting back on email, too bad, that is important. Probbly what I want is close to the G2 the uswings has, but I think that may have the gussetts as well.....time for a phone call....
The FS jacket link is ok but I don't like the elastic on the waist band, rather have military type fabric
Thanks

Hey, if you decide to go the Cooper G-2 route, I suggest that you order it from these guys in Vermont, who regularly sell it for a mere $195!

I think they have free shipping too on an order of that size - you'll end up paying alot less there than at US Wings, or from Cooper themselves, etc.
I've bought stuff from them before (notably a dirt-cheap MA-1 knockoff for my son), and they're great to deal with...
