Many thanks for all that info mayserwegener. I've passed it all onto our friends on the Homburg thread. They may want to honour their favourite lid on its birthday!

Sounds like a great idea. I love my Homburgs. :)

Thanks for sharing the photos of the formerly elegant shop. What is currently in the space? Looks like a rather hideous redecoration and furnishing choice.

Beautiful shots. Wish it stayed original

What it must have looked like back in the day although I am not positive this is the same location.

(This is actually the main retail shop at Kärtnerstrasse that was destroyed in WWII.)

Have to agree about the hideous chandeliers and furnishings but it looks like everything else is still pretty much in place. Are there any other examples of places of this level that survived?

Here are some more pictures as it looks today. This location (a city block) is known as Habig-Hof.

"In 1882, a new building was added to the former workshop located on Wiedner Hauptstrasse. The new and modern factory was equipped with the latest technology, allowing the staff to meet all export orders from Germany and overseas."

P. & C. Habig Sport

This new old stock P. & C. Habig Sport belongs to a friend of mine. It has the "Ventilo" vents. This one was made for the German market and has logo I haven't seen before. I thinking 1950s with this one.

J. Heinr. ITA Wien

This one also belongs to a friend. Don't see many of these J. Heinr. ITAs but they are way up there in quality. I have a couple late 30s Homburgs. This is a long hair sport model probably from the 1950s.

This new old stock J. Heinr. ITA grey open crown Fedora also belongs to a friend of mine. Very stylish and of great quality. I think this one is early 1950s.

Hückel Foulard (1938-45)

Hückel Foulard (1938-45)

This is another WWII Johann Hückel´s Söhne. The felt is a beautiful green and very pliable. The sweat is man made material and cracking apart. The use of this material might be due to war time rationing because it is unique. Other than that the hat is in perfect condition. It is only a size 56cm but I will keep as is for historical reasons.

Nice hat, but I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a hat with AH's name in it - yuch!

Beautiful felt and lining. I have a WWII era French-Basque(Resistance) Beret with that same synthetic sweatband material.

Very interesting. I wonder if it was due to a lack of materials or some failed attempt at innovation?

The blocking is similar to my Hückel Superior but the felt is less dense and more pliable.
