I found this thread for dating Borsalinos:

Does anyone know of other sites for dating hats, especially fedoras? I'm particularly interested in dating my Dobbs hat. Thanks. thorne

Show us a picture of the Dobbs and I'm sure we can narrow it down to at least the right decade.

Brad Bowers is who I'd ask.

I would, Garrett, but apparently I'm not allowed to attach pictures to my posts. Is there a way to become authorized to attach pictures? thorne

This is the place. If you can post pictures, we can date it for you.

You have to host the pictures on an outside photo hosting site, like photobucket. It's free and relatively easy.

The hat's probably middle 1950s. It's a homburg, so the brim isn't meant to be snapped.

Thanks, Dinerman. I guess I'm being sacrilegious by steaming it so the front brim turns down. thorne

You can trim the brim, change the ribbon, dye it, fry it, or anything else you want.....but never steam the brim of a homburg to fedora-ize it!!!!!

I did this once and could feel an icey breeze right through my computer:

Homburg to Fedora (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250435565675)

I don't know I think I'd prefer the steaming to the trimming!
I think it's a looker as it is now and you should leave it and learn to love it.

ScottF... funny ! Yeah, that hat is a mess. I tried to turn the brim down more on mine and it makes the hat look horrible. So no more of that.

billyspew... I agree: love the hat. It is my favorite... so far. Now why oh why do I keep searching eBay for more hats???! ;) thorne
