Hello All! It is good to be back on the Lounge after a five week vacation. As many of you know, my wife is from England and all her family is still there. We go back to visit evey couple of years and this was the year. We were there for five weeks this time, in Cornwall where they have retired.

With luggage restrictions and the variety of travel methods we had to use to get to their village, I was only able to take two hats with me. It was easier to pack all my clothes that to select only two from my collection, to wear for five weeks! In the end I picked my Akubra FEDIV and my Stetson panama straw for the journey. The Akubra is by no means my favorite hat but given the weather conditions generally and the bumps and bruises of travel, I felt it was, if nothing else, expendable.

I noted that there were a good many straw hats in the fedora style evident in the coastal areas, due to a plethora of sunshine while we were there. I did not receive any strange looks, comments, or have any issues with my hat while we were there, except for one slightly intoxicated yabo who took it off its place of rest in a pub and tried it on for his buddies. He quickly put it back when I spoke with him....

Not to bore you all to tears but here are a few shots of places we went in Cornwall, the southwest of England.

This is my brother-in-law's house in Stowford. It is a listed thatched cottage built in 1467.

Jail Ale at the Royal Inn, a pub in Horsebridge with a hobnail in the doorstep bearing King Charles I mark, indicating a Royal visit to that pub in the 1660's. I couldn't resist the Jail Ale given my vocation....it is made near Dartmoor Prison close to where we walk on the moor.

Palperro. A small fishing village with a very old lifeboat house in the background. My favorite spot in the Southwest of England.

It looks very beautiful there. Hopefully at some point I'll get a chance to visit that part of the UK.

Great pics. I love Cornwall, used to holiday there all the time and hopefully going back next year. Polperro was a regular holiday spot for us when we were younger.

Great photos. I absolutely love Cornwall, especially the area around Land's End. And that cottage from your brother-in-law is a sheer beauty. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I also like the fact that you had the chance to see some Morris dancing. Weird stuff, eh? I used to play a few Morris tunes with the concertina player of my ex band (which we had to do secretly as the rest of the band only wanted to play Irish and Scottish dance tunes). :)

Beautiful pics! Wish I could go. And that cottage! That's quite a sight for one who lives in the land of "disposable" architecture, where any building older than 50 years gets torn down and replaced by a Walgreen's or CVS Pharmacy. :eusa_doh: Even the older houses in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas are disappearing to make way for new houses.

Thanks for sharing, Wade. Looks like great fun, and five weeks away from the drudgery sounds heavenly.

Welcome back home, and hello and welcome back to Mrs. Paladin as well. We missed you on the lounge.

Well, I guess we can excuse your absence lately since this is what you've been up to. I've been all over Ireland and to London, Bath and Salisbury, but never to Cornwall. Thanks for sharing your shots and welcome back! :)

Thanks for sharing your photos with us Mr. P. My mom's from England and I've been over a few times, but it's been many, many years ago. It's wonderful that you and your wife were able to make the trip and it looks like you had a great time. :)

Thanks to all of you for the kind notes and the welcome back! We had a great time it was a very relaxing trip. I am looking forward to getting back into the daily Lounge routine and seeing what everyone has been up to while we were gone. I bet there are pages of new hats, e-Bay conquests, and great hats worn daily just waiting to be posted.

I think these are wonderful pictures of a fabulous place. Well done. I frequently peek over the fences here at the lounge, checking to see what the neighbors are wearing and watching their lives from afar. In this instance, I feel as if I were treated through the pictures to a beautiful holiday for which I did not plan. How nice!

Welcome back and as everyone has said very nice pics......

I always enjoy seeing other people's travels... it seems they all go somewhere that I haven't been... LOL

Beautiful cottage,,,,,If he was my relative I would wear out my welcome there for sure....:D

There for a minute I was thinking you were off guarding the opening of the Secret Hat Society Cave,, but since it really doesn't exist, I know better... ;)
