It's Latin, and means something like "to move and make progress".

Inside the Cavanagh hat there is the motto " A Posse Ad Esse ".

Do you know what that means?

It , in Latin, translates "from the possible to the Essence or reality"

I think I agree more with Zohar here. It translates more to "I move and progress or advance." Charles Knox meant that his hats were not the same old hats. He became the leader of men's fashionable hats when he was alive. His son, Colonel Edward Knox took this motto even more seriously he moved uptown to Fifth Avenue and Madison Square---the fashion center still today and expanded to three New York locations. Efficient management was also part of this move and progress theme. It makes sense even today. You can't stand still or your competition will pass you by and leave you in the dust. ;)

Regards to all,
