I have long been a fan of the classic Penguin Books (and the Pelican branch), which began publishing in 1935. I'm a particular fan of the classic simplistic design.

Does anyone else have any old Penguins that they would like to upload?

Below are some logo designs and workings from the original designer.
Below that, a selection of my Penguin books...When I bought my copy of 1984 it had in the previous owner's bookmark - a scrap of newspaper from 1947 with listings for theatre/cinema performances in London's West End!

Very cool! As a mystery fan I love to see Christie and Parker :P.

I used to have a Penguin book about Penguin books, it told the entire history of it's inception and rise... it may still be in the 'reference section' in the attic even now, but so many boxes to sort through, it would take hours...

the best part of buying used books is finding random bookmarks that people have used or notes they have scribbled on pages. Last random bookmark I found was a 20 year old tram ticket.

Although I do love the simplistic styling of Penguin editions, I find that the lack of variety of a bookshelf of penguins is something I would dislike immensely and so I only have one penguin edition. Of Mice and Men/Cannery Row by Steinbeck, maybe I will upload if I get around to scanning it.

I so need to read the island of dr moreau

I have one here from 1941 (first published in 1940), frankly I need to get rid of it ASAP (by the end of next week) so if someone doesn't want it to go in the rubbish bin, let me mail it to you. M. T. Ólafsson wrote his name on one of the first pages but other than that it seems clean, the pages aren't even dog-eared. I think he wrote in pencil, so maybe you can even erase it.
