German tourists complained last year, and such insignia were banned.
SS re-eneactors? It will probably take a few more generations of time and space.

Late in World War II, fleeing German soldiers tried to destroy the equipment they used for transmitting messages in their Enigma code. Hundreds of salvageable machines, however, were left behind, and the technology, with alphabet keyboards and hidden rotors, still fascinates the public.

“It’s got spying, it’s got mystery, it’s got great stories behind it,” Kenneth Rendell, the founder of the Museum of World War II, in Natick, Mass., said in a phone interview. He has nine Enigma machines on view. (Another is on loan at the New-York Historical Society through May 27.)

The devices and related material now routinely bring five-figure prices at auction. On March 12 a canvas sheath for an Enigma instruction book, marked with a yellowish cross, perhaps to disguise it as a first-aid guide, sold for $13,800 at James D. Julia Auctioneers in Fairfield, Me.

How do you do?, I'm doing swell, well you see I could not find a place to introduce myself, but then I saw the WWII part of this site and I know this was the right place so here it goes :

Hello Ladies and gentlemen, how do you do?? well I'm Miss Lucille A. and I live in 1942, every day, 24 hours, and when a year finishes, for me well 1942 just starts again, I'm not one of those gals who just dresses up, I hate those, I DO LIVE IN 1942, I always shop with my ration book in hand, I use, no cell phone, microwave, Ipod, and whatever other things you people of the future have, I talk 1942, ALL of my clothes are made from original patterns and pictures from 1939 to 1942(you see in the war we can't be buying clothes all of the time, so we have to use some older clothes too) I know all that a gal from 1942 should know, like how the war is going, making do and mending, I mean EVEN MY MAKEUP IS FROM 1942!! All of the products I use are of of course new, in 1942 packaging EVERY SINGLE THING!! I don't ever use ANYTHING that has not been created yet (in 1942) and from experience I can predict that some person trying to make me feel bad is going to say "Oh, so if you do live in 1942 why do you use a computer???" Well I use this aparatus out of pure nesessity, To know what every gal from 1942 shound know, and why don't I do research in books you say? well its too much effort that the other gals from 1942 don't have to do!! they just open the newspaper and there it is, but well for obious reasons it's not like that for me... I just use it for reaserch and for contacting people, also there are thing you can find here that are not in books, like testimonial of the other women of 1942, well that is mostly myself ! thank you for your time!!

Guy buys an original WWII A-2 at GOODWILL for $17, and tracks down it's original owner to give back to him.

Heartwarming tale and all, I have to admit though, this line from the vet makes me a bit nervous:
“I couldn’t figure out why anyone would want the jacket after all these years,” he said."

http://www.stripes.com/news/veterans...acket-1.218471

Looking at the jacket in question, and being a selfish bastard, I think I'd have a hard time letting that one go.

Among other projects, I am presently idly toying with finally getting around to putting together an AVG-inspired M442a replica. The jacket won't be hard to source.... it's the leather patches (AVG/ CBI theatre / Hell's Angels / Blood Chit) that aren't so readily available. To buy the four from Gibson and Barnes would cost me USD365 - before shipping and the inevitable tax / VAT sting! Is that normal? I'm not knocking the level of skill and effort that goes into producing these, just loathe to spend as much as the value of a used jacket on patches if I can avoid it!
