I used to do the Audrey pin trick in the car on the way to class in high school. I used a safety pin however, not because i thought it was safer, but because when opened it creates a nice little handle :) and when my mom found out she yelled about it all the time, something about my eyes being poked out... ;) never did stab my eyes however.

I was just reading yesterday about the electrolysis sessions Rita Hayworth endured to raise her hairline, which apparently served to make her appear more "white"

http://www.ritahayworth.com/hair/electrolysis.html

it is hard to imagine anyone who looked like this being advised to change a thing.

You are absolutely right! but.... this in not Rita Hayworth..

According to Barbara Leaming's biography on Rita If This Was Happiness and TCM Film Guide's Leading Ladies, Rita wanted the electrolysis procedure. It took two years to complete, and made a subtle change that she truly felt was worth the trouble.

Personally, I think it was too - It really enhanced the shape of her face.

who knows what would have happened to her career-wise without that and the new hair color, but there's just something about her natural dark, exotic beauty that i love.

She was always such a beautiful girl :) I think what you wrote about her appearing more white was on the mark. She probably would have been a bit player for "exotic" roles without the change, and that really would have been a shame!

Bump!

I found a great beauty secret of Lana Turner's on page 84 of Lana: The Memories, The Myths, The Movies by her daughter Cheryl Crane:

"Mother used very simple products on her face. She believed in ordinary soap and water and moisturizers. She also had her own concoction of water mixed with Boraxo, a grainy soap normally used by mechanics to remove grease from their hands. Declaring it the world's greatest exfoliate, she used it faithfully once a week. Watching from the sidelines I was amazed her skin endured."

So am I...!

Ha! I also use Audrey's lash "trick," if I want my lashes to look really great. Usually an open safety pin if there's one close, failing that, anything very small and pointy.

Ah! I have the answer to this! My Gramma told me about this. She was always bemoaning her small mouth (which I inherited, my daughter however has her daddy's pretty pout) It's a clothespin. On your lower lip, while you sleep. I'm assuming that it would give you an almighty bruise, thus the damaged tissue would make it look as though you had a naturally bee-stung mouth. That or it did absolutely nothing, but the placebo effect made girls continue to do it in hopes that their lips would look lovelier.

Audrey Hepburn is so stunning, camera definitely loves her! I personally think the biggest secret of modern celebs is plastic surgery, especially in in Korea . Concerning the ice bath tube MM used, that can't be true, it would damage her skin awfully.

It is the very rare bird who can shave off eyebrows and make it work. Frankly, I doubt this worked for these actresses in person. And I've never gotten the "Joan Crawfod as a Beauty" idea. I mean she's hardly woof woof material but seems rather plain and ordinary to me.
