Help! Silk tie repair!

I was quite upset to find that my favourite silk tie has frayed along one edge. The frayed, threadbare 'patch' is about half an inch long. Is there any way that I can fix this?

Exactly where on the tie is the damage located?

The damage is located about a third of the way up from the thicker end. I really hope I can save it. It's not particularly vintage - a 25-30yrs old Hugo Boss - but I really love it.

The damage is located about a third of the way up from the thicker end.

I assume that the damage was caused by repeated knot making. If so, and the damaged area is contained within the knot, then you might be able to mend it with needle and thread. But if the damaged shows below the knot then it would require reweaving which is a much more expensive proposition with varying degrees of success (especially considering the damage lies in a pattern).

I haven't seen silk rewoven but assuming it might be, the cost for a larger area may be prohibitive. Can you find another second hand, even on ebay?

I've had a burn hole in a silk suitcoat rewoven with great results but the flower pattern on the tie will be a bear (read time consuming) to get right and time=$$$. If it were of great sentimental value or even just my lucky tie I might consider the expense but otherwise.....
