Hi guys,

Does anyone know where one can get good quality gator, croc, lizard belts--for a decent price?

Also, what are a reasonable prices for gator, croc, and lizards?

And does anyone have knowledge about their durability?

Thanks a lot!!

What one might be willing to pay is immaterial.

From the retailers I am familiar with, it seems low end for a gator belt is near 500, top end 800...and for lizard around 200.

I certainly would like to pay as little as possible without sacrificing durability and aesthetics--however, I am uncertain where to look. What I am willing to spend is less relevant than what price the market is setting.

Hey, you're the one who seems concerned with price.

Never did I say price was not important, but what I am willing to pay is only incidental to market prices--I was asking general market prices, not the prices Gucci or Tom Ford might charge.

If you are looking for hat belts I gave $79 for this one and put it on my Kangaroo Skin Barmah. I wanted alligator but had to settle for Australian Croc. Completely unique!

I don't think I'd wear an exotic skin belt with my conservative office suits. The lizard or gator belt is for jeans, casual.

As for the snark, I don't get it...I don't speak Lumby English perhaps.

Keep on truckin'

What snark?if you mean the word buy in quotation marks that refers to our last conversation when I mentioned that I can't "buy" because of my horse crazy wife, you'll never get a snark from this side of Canada.

???

You are asking about a luxury item so luxury brands are certainly part of the market range. And to my read, your replies have more attitude than appropriate for your 25th post.

Alligator and crocodile are durable. Sharkskin even more so. But then there is your definition of durable to consider. ;)

I often pair an exotic strap with a dress buckle to wear with a suit; Particularly the gold and sterling slide buckles.

Yeah, I read him the same way and am not inclined to share my insights from 25 years of collecting buckles and straps.

Yea I always thought exotics were sharp enough to wear with suits myself and after seeing your collection Mr.Lyles you just confirmed it.Very nice collection,no I don't own any myself strictly a cowhide guy but that might change. How well do they hold up for daily use compared to the standard cowhides?

First, I think my 'attitude' has been wrongly interpreted, I was asking for member advice and certainly have greatly appreciated the feedback. Next, I don't think post count is of any significance, so that comment was a little baffling. As to the pricing of top end fashion brands, their pricing is based on prestige rather than the quality of a product--so, if one is looking for value for money, which is my wont, you never look to those brands.

Also, while exotic straps are often paired with a suit, it is not my inclination. In my profession and firm a gator strap with my suit might carry greater symbolism than it would in a less hierarchical sort of place. So it really depends, but I am looking to buy a few belts for casual attire.

Thanks to Lyles for showing his straps, even if he did so in a comically caustic manner. No doubt your wealth of experience in buying belts might be of use to someone, but perhaps not so instrumental to me. Your buckles are a little too flamboyant for my tastes, and I would never get a silver or gold buckle--just doesn't appeal to me. Some of the straps are my style, but I think someone who would buy silver and gold buckles would be shopping at a considerably higher price point than myself.

As I have familiarized myself with the retail market of exotic straps, I do not think I would want to spend more than 500 on a strap. And trafalgar seems to be a good place to start, although I am still looking for better value.
