New Caribou Stetsonian arrived. Quite pleased so far. Thinner than my Heritage Akubra but similar soft feel to the touch. All stitching looks even and all items look well put together.

The above color is made a bit tan from the incandescent light from my lamp.

Initial dry shape with a flash and better lighting:

I was surprised by the quality of the hatband. Very nice. View inside:

The few while flecks are flashback from specks of dust.

Get them while you can.

My favorite current production hat. Love the Stesonian block, brim width, crown height and beefy brim binding. Nice bash Fed. Enjoy wearing it.

Old hat. I finished rebuilding it yesterday. Was it a Stratoliner? I dunno, but it has those lines. I purchased this on eBay as a beater felt to play with - over a year ago. No sweatband, no markings, no interior paper tags - just a piece of old felt shaped like a hat. It sat, waiting for me to finally pick up a 7 1/4 52 block, which happened a few weeks ago. So I gave it a naphtha bath (many months ago), reblocked it (I think the body was a 7 1/8), re-flanged it, put in a sweatband generously supplied by Tim (CaneRodMaker, AlleyKat Hats) several months ago, and put on a new ribbon I acquired on eBay many months ago. I had been wanting to do this project for a long time. Despite the mothing on the brim, it's a fantastic piece of felt, and sat atop one of my hat boxes for several months with a beautiful dry bash I'd put into it (third pic). I haven't taken it out for a test drive yet, but I got the fit right and I like the color combo. The hat itself is a very, very dark blue/green, with a matching brim binding. The original ribbon also matched, but it fell apart when I took it off prior to cleaning. It currently remains unlined, and I think I'll keep it that way. It's very thin, lightweight, and as stated before, easy to crease and shape.

Nice looking hat! So it was a 7 1/8 and now its a 7 1/4 after blocking? Did the sewing holes from where the sweat used to be sewn on (I assume) move up onto the crown? I can't see any. Are you adding a sweatband? Do you think one of those hat shapers would work for blocking a piece of felt like this?

Perhaps a hair, but not noticeably. Reblocking one size up doesn't have much effect. I still have ~2 3/4" of brim, which is what I started with. Yes, new sweatband as it didn't have anything when I got it. The sweatband stitching is hidden by the ribbon.

Personally, I haven't dealt with the Hat Shapers, although they get good reviews here on the Lounge. But frankly, I waited a year to find the right block to do this on; I wasn't going to do it on one of those.
