Isn't that a heartbreaker? I wish I could find a hat as nice as my wife's Cavanagh!
Thanks Fed. This is probably in the top three nicest hats I've ever handled. Fortunately the other two fit me ok
Very nice hat. Since it is too small for you, is it looking for a new home?
Thanks. I think this one is my brother's size, so I'm going to offer it to him if it fits. If not it'll end up here in the classifieds.
A beauty! Did it put up a good fight?
It sure felt like it when I realized it wasn't going to fit me, but I'd already had my hands on it at that point and wasn't about to throw it back.
That is a really nice looking hat. It's a shame that it doesn't fit you...or me.

Thanks. I agree.
Fantastic find Dale! That's a real beauty there!

Thanks Harv. I sure wish it fit.

Thanks all for the likes and comments. Have a great Father's Day if it applies, and if not, enjoy your Sunday anyway.

Delivered to my house yesterday, thanks to a tip from Bob Roberts and the helpful assistance of Candy at the Hatco Outlet.

The felt is very nice. Thinner and a step up from my new Royal Deluxe Stetsons I purchased over the last year or two. More on par with my Gannon customs as far as hand and malleability. The shots in the other thread that showed the defect were a bit amplified. It appears that a ~1" section of the brim binding was trimmed incorrectly and is a bit wonky. You really have to look to see it. I had thought about having somebody do something with it, but I think I'm just going to leave it - you hardly notice it and heck, I'm tall enough few will ever see it!

As you will see in the next shots, though, I'm going to need to re-tack the ribbon, as it has been tacked unevenly. Also, weirdly, it appears to "bulge" a little bit around the base of the crown. Almost like a hat that was stretched up a size with the sweat in, though it is tagged a 7 1/4 and fits fine. I haven't decided about that. I have several vintage hats that show this (and thin ribbons are especially prone to showing it).

I'm probably just going to re-tack the ribbon and enjoy it. It really is a nice hat, particularly for the price I scored it for. So...thanks, Roberto, and thanks Candy!

Looks good to me. Only us hat people would notice, the regular folks will just be impressed with the lines and look. It seems like Candy at Hatco is becoming the defacto Hatter for the Fedora Lounge. I'm calling her tomorrow about one of those modern Homburgs.

Very nice Jim! I picked up t he same exact hat except the 150th anniversary edition (not sure what the difference is except for a tag and sticker) new off of ebay a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking I was getting an excellent quality but the felt is definitely much thinner and nicer than my other stratoliner premiere royal deluxe in cornhill I bought from a TFL member a few months ago. I thought I got a decent deal on ebay (not sure what you paid) and had no idea you can order hats directly from the outlet and get them shipped?!

Thanks! Yours has the Royal Deluxe liner tip, I take it? This is definitely a step up from those. My Stetsonian and Racine are very nice, but thick felts. This is very nice, and pretty thin.

They are very helpful at the outlet and will even send photos. Very personalized service. We have an outlet thread around here somewhere.

Yep, mine does have the same royal deluxe liner tip except the sweat has "Premier Stratoliner" vs "Royal deluxe". Regardless the felt is nicer on the caribou even though it is not "excellent quality" which for sure is nice.....got to check out the hatco outlet! thx
