Interesting floorpattern. I wonder what the backstory on that is in Washington, DC in 1922.

Assuming you're referring to the "swastika", before the Nazi Party adopted the symbol in the 1920s and rotated it 45° it was a sacred symbol used by practitioners of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism (among others) in many cultures. In the Western world it represented future success or good luck.
