On the bright side...I reckon folks don’t have to worry about food spoiling. The whole dang place is one
big ice box!

I still see this in the surrounding small towns, not so much on the freeways.
Although I have seen mattresses and sofas that were not secured.

I can hear the V-6 in that GMC pickup in my head right now and it has been years since I've heard one run.

There's not much sheet metal between
the V-6 and the inside front cab by
the gears.
It's fine in the cold months with the
heat of that GM iron coming in.

In the summer, that's whole different thing.

I was uploading this photo when I noticed the caption written on top.

I noticed that each pump had a specific name .

Further checking found that this gas station was owned by the uncle of the
Dione quintuplets.

That had to be very convenient in the '40s when so many later-teenage and young adults still lived at home.

My dad said he used to do the same thing on the package shelf of my grandparents' '52 Buick on the drive between Des Plains, Illinois, and Flint, Michigan, when visiting family.

No super freeways or rest stops. Restrooms were mostly gas stations or on the side of the road
if you couldn’t wait.
