Cowboy Boots

I was (am) curious as to what diff the shark skin would make on the trees utility??
Sharkskin & Stingray are tough leathers & need to move to keep from drying out & cracking especially in climates with very low humidity or moisture. Boot trees are not recommended. You can actually split lizard skin by using boot trees.

The soles of well designed cowboy boots are made to turn up on the toe.[/QUOTE]
It is a conundrum in that I live in a humid climate where it seldom drops below 50% but it is wet....so it is good weather for my lizard and python boots in the closet I can't wear them on most days as it is raining and very wet. Did not know that boots were supposed to curl up at the toe. Personally, as a northern city boy hate the look and use my trees religiously. I have two pair of Lucchese branded boot trees with the high arch and will now be cautious about using them in my lizards .
Not knowing they were supposed to curl my first though was "damn, it is too bad Snuff and Montie did not take better care of such great boots." Mea culpa, mea culpa!

Those are nice! My favorites would be these Paul Bonds:

Wing tips are so classy on a cowboy boot. I like when makers play with contrasting skins and textures on them.

Great book! Mackey Hedges is the author. I need to pick up the 2nd one

Yes, that's him. I think the second is Shadows of the Wind. I bought a misprint of the first one and it was so good I dealt with reading two pages forward, one page back for the entire book. I didn't want to put it down long enough to go buy a proper copy. I ended up finding a good copy in a used bookstore in Cheyenne and now have good copies of both, along with my misprint. Still have them, I was actually a little shocked. They were in the stack with my Louis LaMour books in the basement.

Seriously. You have a knack for writing. I can see how easy it rolls out from you. I want to hear more. Take my advice. Write a short story. Someday you'll remember this advice.

Every once in a while I get into a mood to write, but it isn't often and when I do write I generally don't think much of it.

Evening all, I'm home. Got back in a few days ago after working with Ryan. Wasn't a bad gig, much better than what I found getting home. The house was rough to say the least, and most of my stuff seemed to have vanished. Even took my clothes out of the closet. Since I've been gone for a while I had plenty with me so its not a huge problem, but just mind blowing. The weather has been nice here, actually put away the winter boots for a few days. Traded around for a little GoPro, played with it some yesterday. I'll attach a photo, not a great shot of my 'good boots' but eh. Alright I guess. Trying to get some time in on my guys now, spend a few days and go try to get some feeder steers at the auction. The one I sent to freezer camp last year left, along with the freezer. Buying beef in the grocery store just irritates me, but this little girl Ryan's running around down there got him onto some kind of paleo diet so that's what I got to eat while we were working. I guess I've been getting used to it, mostly beef and vegetables. No sugar, low carbs...fun stuff. Sold a couple of rifles and a 1911, someone either forgot the combination to my safe or didn't want to risk a felony for stealing my guns with everything else, but that's another story. I picked up another dog, the mom to the one I already had. She's a working line Czech Shepherd with some very serious training. Deployed twice, and I called her up one night when an ole boy did a little trespassing and scared the girl down the road. If I was going to write a story, that'd be a good one. We met on the business end of an 870 and 10 minutes later were drinking beer and watching the dogs play in the field. My girl was retired from her protection job because the owner didn't feel like she could handle the dog anymore. The owner got scared of the dog, the dog got pushy because she didn't feel like she had a leader. Fortunately the owner gave the dog up to the trainer before anything seriously bad happened, and then the trainer set her up with me. This evil, vicious girl sleeps against my chest most nights with her head under my chin. LOL She just needed some attention and stress relief. The dog didn't want to have to make all the decisions herself and she couldn't rely on her previous owner to decide. She knows I will, so she can relax and depend on me to do the thinking for us both. She chills and listens to me, everything is good. Anyway, that was a rabbit trail. I love my girls, actually having one of them tattooed on me here in a few days. I plan to do the other one soon, along with my brand. My animals are my coworkers and I won't ask them to do a job or wear a uniform that I won't, so I intend to have my cattle brand tattooed on my shoulder along with a line from ole Hank- "Though I may struggle and strive, I'll never get out of this world alive". Smoked my first cigar back down in Colorado, picked up a couple more in town before coming home.

Mentioned that to my mother, she commented that I'm just like her father, my grandad. He loved the snow and cold and smoked either a pipe or Muriel Coronas cigars. I've had a couple of people comment lately that I remind them of their grandfather which is a little concerning. I'm only 30. LOL Had a girl tell me the other day I was Wyoming personified, driving my 20 year old pickup with my dogs and guns and a saddle in the back seat. I don't know if I could go that far, that's bordering on Chris LeDoux territory. If Chris LeDoux and Jesus Christ both physically came to Wyoming at the same time, I wouldn't place any wagers on who would draw the biggest crowd. State motto may as well be "God Bless Chris LeDoux"- and I'd support that. :)

Alright, I found some Senior on YouTube and probably ought to smoke one. :)

Soooo.....my son wore his boots to his mom's house awhile back. They made it back to mine this weekend, and they reek of cat piss. Anything can be done to save them?

Outdoor fire comes to mind. Wash them in a solution of a mild dish detergent and warm water and rinse well. Dry in direct sun. Maybe.

Spray them with Febreeze and let them dry for about 24 hours.
Thanks guys.

I'll try the febreeze first, since it seems easiest, then go with a more hardcore tactic if necessary.

I read this quote from a saddlemaker who also does boot repairs. I've purposely omitted his name.

"I am not into Twisted X boots but found a decent looking pair to rebuild as a project, these are brand new and after taking them apart..the insole is plastic, the welts were coming apart with little pull on them because the cord used is very weak, the heel block was cardboard, the shank is covered with cardboard and looks to be plastic, and finally excessive use of nails."
