Bemidji woolen mills - Any experiences?

I have one of these in a red and black plaid. It is well made, very warm, and the folks at Bemidji were very helpful in helping me choose the correct size.

    Starter hat

I have 2 Stylemasters, one in brown, one in carbon grey-- the latter a birthday present from my girlfriend. Both purchased at Bernie Utz's, my hat shop since 1979. I put a windcord on the brown hat for wear in windy, wet Seattle. The grey hat is my "dress hat", for less rainy conditions. People...

Confused about sizing on LL Bean DUCK Boots - Please Help

I ordered a pair of 11 wide EE , and they are loose enough for 1 pair of medium wool socks, under a pair of heavy socks. My shoe size is 11E-EE, so I'd go a 9 if you're wearing 1 pair socks, 10 if 2 pair. And the EEs are plenty wide. I got them over 10 yrs. ago, so i hope the sizing hasn't...

    FL Cult Films

I think Bladerunner, the Final Cut is the best sci-fi film ever made. It makes you ask what makes us human.

    Side By Side/ Hat Comparisons

I remember eating Mello Roll ice cream as a kid in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in the early 1950's. The ice cream came in a cylinder that you would put into the weirdly shaped cone.

    Lucky Strikes

Haven't had a cigarette in 22yrs, but usually smoked Luckies or Camels, both unfiltered. I also remember the little 4 packs in C-rations. Never liked Pall Malls or menthols, but Chesterfields were OK. We also got free full packs of smokes in the field in Vietnam, along with soap, writing paper...

    Cuban Cigar

I've had a few decent, and a few mediocre cubans, but I prefer JR Ultimates (Maduro or Natural wrapper), and Romeo y Julietta Habana Reserve Robustos. Plus, they're a lot cheaper.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Thin Red Line. This is the most stunningly realistic, beautifully photographed, almost poetic war movie I've ever seen. Better than "Platoon". And I say that as a veteran (11B40) of the 4th Infantry Division, Vietnam 1968.

    Shoe Repair

If you're in Seattle, I recommend Swanson's Shoe Repair in Wallingford. Cash or checks only...really. They resoled/reheeled 2 pair of Rockport "Prowalker"walking shoes that were made in Hungary at least 10 yrs. ago. I bought them on sale, and got them out about 4 yrs. ago. My feet had gotten...

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

Some good cigars that fit the above: Punch London club Maduro; JR Ultimates, especially the EMS and maduro wrapper; and R&J Habana Reserve Rothchilds (5X54 ring gauge).

Why do you wear a fedora or cap?

I've always liked hats, except for the "baseball cap" we wore in the army. Used to find decent, cheap used fedoras in Goodwill back in the early 70s. A girlfriend got me a nice fedora in 1974 (brand unknown, but real felt). Wore it everywhere, from Death Valley to the Yukon. Somehow I lost it...
