I just picked this one up off the bay and thought it might make for a good beater. Moth nibbles, some tracks under the brim, looks like the wind strap had been cut, possible soiling, but the color and the condition of the leather caught my eye. Sure enough, it arrived as a total beater, but...

I would say to just wear and enjoy the hat in it's present condition. No vigorous cleaning job or steam on the sweat! If the sweat starts to break away at the stitches, use Fabri Tac to carefully glue it back in place. If it starts cracking around the top edges or anywhere else, carefully...

I noticed that often these old Boss Raw Edge hats also have "The Fray" on the sweat but this one does not. As I understand from reading some of the older posts that "The Fray" had to do with a process used when making the sweat band and named after the Stetson officer who came up with the idea...

Update: I found that I had some old Fibri-Tac glue from several years ago that had been unopened until now. The problem was that the glue had become thick and not of the consistency I would have expected so I called the manufacturer who said that the bottle should be almost full which it wasn't...
