Vintage Silhouettes Custom Hats - Official Affiliate Thread

Thank you for the advice, everyone! Also, Eric, very nice hat! I am sorry for the confusion of my previous post. I have been overthinking the idea of hat shrinkage, in large part due to my experience with one Federation IV 59cm/7 3/8 hat, and this thread below from eight years ago about the...

Vintage Silhouettes Custom Hats - Official Affiliate Thread

Hello Art! If my tightest head measurement is 22.5" inches circumference around the middle of the forehead, and more comfortable is 23", with one finger able to fit into the flexible tape measurer, and two fingers for 23.5", which size would you recommend for me if I plan to order an off the...

Hello! Yes, it is Sad Hill Cemetery from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! It's great to see that you've been there, even cycling your way, but I haven't been over there in Spain, yet. I may or may not ever visit, but it would definitely be a great experience. When you visited, I think there were...

    Akubra Overload

That is a really nice hat. As my Bushman hat is worn with a telescope crease like that one, it resembles yours when the brim is down, although the Spirit of Australia hat has a flatter brim and a leather braided band.

    Akubra Overload

Both hats look great! I really do like that Squatter though, with the telescope crown. He may appreciate the gift.

    Akubra Overload

In my collection so far, I have two Federation IVs (dark brown and tawny fawn, both with teardrop creases), a tan Bushman with a telescope crown and flipped up brim for most days (pulled down for added sun protection), and a santone fawn Snowy River (with the teardrop crease and slightly rolled...

    What are you wearing today??

I think it's very nice. At times, I've worn grey striped pants in much the same way, in the style of the Stresemann or Stroller suit, although without any official occasion to wear one. I assume that most people do not have such opportunities, yet I don't think it should necessarily be...

    Chinatown - alternative soundtrack

I'm enjoying that, thank you! I remember reading about an alternative soundtrack, yet it was not possible to hear it. Now it is.

Some bad news (now getting better!)

You have my prayers, Frank. I am very sorry about what happened.

Bradley Whitford's Fedora at the Emmys

That's a very important improvement, I think. The original picture has him wearing a hat with too much taper, while the second one has the more straight-sided crown I prefer. Did you also raise the crown height a little bit, or did the lack of taper give the perception?

Blondie's shirt from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Thank you for showing that shirt! It does look very close to Blondie's shirt. I have also seen Old Navy selling a similar shirt, almost two years ago, although at the time I wasn't ready to buy it, and it looks like they do not offer the one I've seen.

Stetson Absinthe any word, sightings, rumors?

My Stetson Stratoliner milano straw hat (new kind) is size 7 3/8, but the fit resembles that of my size 60 (7 1/2) Akubra hats (after naturally shrinking down a bit). The straw hat's leather sweatband has not shrunken much, if it ever did at all, so I think it's safe to say order your measured...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Although I didn't say it, I wrote it on Facebook the other day.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

You don't really hear variations of "What the devil," or "What in blazes" anymore, to express astonishment, agitation, or disbelief. I can only guess they're very infrequently used or next to non-existant now, well after the 1960s have ended. I've heard some of those phrases on the original Star...

    Bogie's best movie?

For several years, I have believed my favorite to be The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I'm got a thing for well-made westerns, and that is one of the best. I was able to accept Humphrey Bogart's characterization of Fred Dobbs as an opportunistic tramp that gradually deteriorates to become more...
