Growing out short hair

I, regretfully, cut my hair quite short in March and now I'm attempting to grow it out. Unfortunately, its in an awkward stage where I can't do much with it because its too short to style much and too shaggy to just let it go. Right now I've been relegated to bandanas and headbands. If anyone has any tips or ideas for how to style hair (50s) while its growing out I would really appreciate it!

Let it go another month before a styling... how long do you want it... use pomade and keep it down... you don't have to answer to anyone.

Have you thought of a wig? It seems drastic but it might get you through the next few weeks.

I'm not the most creative with hairstyles, but I just wanted to recommend the long hair community to you. I was growing out my hair for my wedding when I found them and they have endless resources for people wanting to grow out their hair and style it in the meantime.

If your hair is really short, you could channel Audrey Hepburn, Jean Simmons, or Elizabeth Taylor. During the 50s, they all had some interesting short hairstyles which look like they are fairly simple. I have included a few inspiration photos.

Hi Im in the same boat as I shaved my head in march and recently had it cut so it's now in a sort of pixie cut - I had in my head that if I could wait it out all my hair would be 4 inches long and them BAM! middy haha but I could not get past the mullet so I cut it. I went for a Jean Seberg type style but longer on the top so I can wear bangs (which I curl) if I want to or else pin it back if I feel like it. So in that way I can grow out the top so when the bottom grows out it will go into a bob and not have the dreaded mullet. I find if you can get it long enough to put some curl into it with a curling iron then you can do a sort of 20s/30s styles relatively easily and get some just wild frizz going which hides the uneven-ness of the back, especially if you do use a ribbon or scarf to hide it. I know you asked for 50s but i think as you see in the pictures of Liz Taylor etc. that kind of bouncy curl can be quite 50s too.

I have, what you may call an Über-short hair; and there are night when I dream of Farrah Fawcett hair.. but that's not gonna happen'. [huh] Still, there are lots of ways to sport a short hair.
I like what pineapplefruitcake posted: Clara Bow - amazing hair. Coarse and thick, but can be achieved even with less "material". Any 1920's short hair is lovely, feminine (why not say it: sexy) :nod:
