Thanks for the comments guys! I designed and built this piece. I don't sell my work because I consider it a hobby not a business. Sadly, people are no longer willing to pay the price for a product not made in China.

There is a company called Datamancer that sells some computer stuff--mostly keyboards--done in styles of the past. Much of it is more Steampunk, but they've done some Deco stuff as well. It is rather pricey, but they do sell these things and take custom orders.

Beautiful craftsmanship Slipperyskip. I have flown past the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kill Devil Hills many of times. I have also seen in from the ground, but it looks better from the air. You have done a superb job of using that style in creating this beautiful piece.

It's interesting to think that the case of that computer is worth 50 times what the guts are worth. The first ENIAC was built 65 years ago and cost (in "inflation-adjusted terms") about $6 million. A current smart phone has probably five orders of magnitude more computation and memory capacity.

Not sure who manages the site now, if anyone, but Bill Nagy (aka Datamancer) died last November in an auto accident. Terrible shame. I corresponded with him when making a keyboard inspired by many of the ones he created. Instead of taking offense at his work being duplicated, he was flattered and even offered bits of advice to help the project along. Probably helped that the project was just for me and not for resale. Bill was quite a guy and was one of the people that drew me toward the steampunk community.

Slipperyskip, your work is as much art as it is engineering - and excellent from both perspectives.
On the selling, perhaps it's more of a case of there being far fewer people "able to" than "willing to" pay the price for such quality. I for one would be more than willing, if I thought I could afford the price, to pay for some of your work (and who wouldn't want to get paid for doing what they enjoy?).

If I may ask - I thought you were based in Australia (based on the name, and I thought I had read it somewhere, yet your location says "McAlpin, FL". Were you ever living in Australia?

Mine is nothing near as nice as one of Bill's masterpieces, but it's something that I use on a daily basis at the office, and no one else has one like it.

My friend Richard Nagy aka Datamancer passed away in Nov. It was a suicide even though it was reported to be a traffic accident. His company is still trying to stay afloat without him. We worked together on his art deco keyboard designs.

Thanks. I work out of a on-line forum in Australia because I like the audience there better. I live in Florida.
