I also need to mention Wild Geese Irish Soldiers and Heros. There are severl incarnations but my experience is only with what I can get my hands on and that has been the classic blend. I can't find the single malt around here. :eusa_doh:

after my trip to Ireland last September, my new favorite Irish whisky is Glendalough. It's not easy to find here in the States, but if you can find it, it's in a class by itself.

I find it depends on when & what I have eaten last but I really like the Original Peated Connemara best followed by the Teeling Single Malt, then the Teeling Single Grain. The Single Grain is not all that complex but just nice.

To be honest I did not yet have an Irish that really knocked me off the stool.
The Connemara above is for me certainly the best of those I tried so far and is available in literally any supermarket, even the smallest, for a small € over here.

I found my Mitchell’s Yellow Spot fine but slightly disappointing and under all those Bushmills, Jameson, Tullamore I tried...has been nothing that impressed me anyhow.

What I’ll try some day is a Redbreast 12yo Cask Strength, is about 60,- bucks over here, so maybe next time my ashtray piggy bank is full again.

I just think most are going to be a bit underwhelming if you are a complex Scotch drinker. I too am greatly disappointed in the Mitchell bottling of Green Spot I bought. It's on my "Do Not Buy" list now.

I'll have to look for the Glendalough to see if I can find it.

@Blackthorn Just found out that „my“ local booze shop‘s got three Glendaloughs on their shelf.
7yo, 13yo and a NAS Pot Still Bourbon & Irish oak.

The 13 will obviously have been sourced as they started business in 2011.

Which one would you recommend?

I'd still go with the 13, Turnip, since *somebody* made it a long time ago. I have two bottles of the "double barrel" Glendalough and I love it so much that I save it for special occasions. If I could buy it locally, I'd drink in every week. But since I have to pay appox $100 shipping on top of the price of the whisky, I just save it for special occasions. But that 13 year old is my Holy Grail of whisky.

Let. me know what you think. I don't know how any whisky can be better than the double barrel, but since the 13 is more than twice the price, I'm intrigued. I may tell my wife I want a bottle for Christmas, since the bottle plus shipping is about what we spend on each other.

I stay away from liquor stores on weekends but I'll look to see if I can find any next wk. I finished up the last of my Connemara last night so need to restock that for sure.

A friend of mine in New Jersey says the stores there carry it, but I can't get it in CA.

When you said you pay $100 shipping that must be from overseas? Surely not New Jersey? I buy from CA & mix & match a 4-5 bottle case & shipping usually amortized out to $5-$7 per bottle via FedEx. I recently shipped a bottle to AR via FedEx & it was $16 shipping.

Yes, that's directly from Ireland. Unfortunately with CA laws as. they are, I can order liquor from outside the country but not inside the country. It sucks to live in CA.
