Windows10, anyone having probs after downloading it ?????

Curious as to if anyone of the lounge has had problems with the free download of Windows 10 ????

A few people I've asked said they did , one lost files(luckily had them on the cloud) another said heard of problems, anyway please post if you have any or heard of them as I'm not sure if I want to download it yet, thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!

No problems here. Download and installation was a breeze. All files are where they should be. Also much more intuitive to work with.

Problem with free downloads is that you also get a packet of viruses & adware forcing there way through too which of course can alter the fonctionality of your computer. Takes a hell of a long time to get rid of them all & even then some may have left permanant traces.

I had a ton of trouble which wasted two days of my life. First issue was the actually download which kept failing. When it finally installed, the AV (Bitdefender) appeared to have been deleted. In fact it was just the shortcuts and icons, AV was there in programs but no way to open it. So I ran a repair from programs which bought the shortcuts back but when I opened AV most functions didn't work. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the AV from scratch, which seemed to sort that issue.
However, by this stage it was clear that there were connectivity problems (quick google sarch suggests a lot of people have had this). Limited or no connectivity, seemingly getting worse on each restart, and eventually no connectivity at all. So no accessing internet troubleshooting then!....
In the end I restored windows 8.1, but even that didn't go smoothly. Now the AV and internet connection were fine, but both the browsers (IE and chrome) were apparently broken which took several more hours to fix.
So I'm back on 8.1 which I've always been happy with. I'll download 10 again, but I'm going to wait a few months while they iron out the inevitable glitches. Altogether it was a nightmare.

The only trouble I've had with Windows 10 is getting it. My wife's sister and her husband downloaded and installed it, and said that they not only had no problems doing so, but that it fixed a couple of problems they were having with 8.1. And I'd read some favorable reviews online, so I clicked on the little "Get Windows 10" icon on my laptop, and did whatever I was supposed to do (I don't remember what that was now). That was well over a month ago, and the only thing I've gotten is the "We're validating Windows 10 for your PC" message. At this point, if they ever notify me that it's ready to be downloaded I'll probably just stick with 8.1.

The windows 10 download notice in on my menu/task bar on the bottom of my desk top (I have windows 7 now)...I have read so much about this update, it scares me half to death thinking about the various horror stories all over the internet regarding it...windows 7 is working great for me. I am not able to get rid of the windows 10 notice that it is ready for down load and installation. I almost think there is some evil forces waiting for everyone to do this down load, and just when everyone has it and is using it, they will have a windows 11....12....13....

If I could get rid of the windows 10 notice on my computer, I'd celebrate!

I have the notice too. That it's been downloaded and it's ready to go. I'm "good to go" according to the little window, but each time i try to finally install it, I get the little spinning disc thing interminably. It just spins and spins and spins around down there for hours. I have a lot of graphics programs, games, photos and music on my souped up PC, and would hate to have it all fubar. So I think I will wait until the bitter end before trying to install it in earnest. I've heard some horror stories about things going missing and applications failing and such, so I'll leave the little window alone for now.

And besides, why would Micro$oft just "give" everyone on the planet free Windows 10? :eeek: Big Brother maybe put them up to it.

Have you tried ; click start menu....control panel.......programs.........right click on windows 10 ....delete or uninstalL..............it would be a good idea to check all your programs & delete any crap that came when you downloaded the windows file....they will all have the same entry date; don't forget to empty your bin.
Just to make sure that there are no bits hanging around & being reloaded each time you turn your computer on, right click taskbar, left click 'task manager' & verify that there arn't any windows 10 stuff in the process list.

Rereading your post LuvMyMan, it appears you may wish to keep the windows 10 file but just get rid of the notice on your taskbar, is this right or do you want to get rid of the whole shebang ?

As a user experience, seven to ten should be a much easier shift than eight to ten. Eight makes much more sense with a touch screen than not; ten I think should work well for both.

My wife upgraded her laptop to Windows 10 from 7 and not long after that, the network card wasn't being recognized and all internet connections couldn't be established. Incredibly frustrating as I have not yet found a work around since her computer doesn't have an Ethernet port.

Well, after waiting approximately three and a half months for them to notify me that Windows 10 was ready to be downloaded, a few nights ago a message window popped up on my laptop saying it was ready. The download took two to three hours, and installing it took about 90 minutes. And that's when the trouble started.

The first thing I noticed was that the icons that I had placed on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen weren't present. Thinking I would have to place them there again manually I opened the control panel, and the window froze. I could move the cursor, but that was the only thing I could do--it wouldn't even let me enter Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Task Manager. So I did a hard reboot, and waited. And waited. And waited. 10 minutes later, my laptop was still trying to boot up; with Windows 8.1, after 1-2 minutes it was ready to go. After another 20 minutes I thought it might finally be ready, so I tried to open one of the browsers. That went well, but I couldn't connect to anything other than the browser's homepage; every other link I tried resulted in a timeout error. So I turned off the laptop, waited a few minutes, and turned it back on again. And waited. And waited. You get the idea. When it finally finished booting up I was able to connect to Microsoft's webpage--eventually--which has instructions on how to revert back to your previous version of Windows if you've had Windows 10 installed less than a month; I'd had it for less than an hour, and hated it. Reverting back to Windows 8.1 took about half an hour and, so far, upgrading to Windows 10 and reverting back to 8.1 doesn't seem to have had any negative effects, except that every once in a while a window pops up to "remind me" to upgrade to Windows 10.

If installing Windows 10 hadn't slowed my laptop's operations to a dead crawl, I think I might have liked it; at the very least, it was nice having the "Start" button back. But all things considered, my experience was far from a positive one.

No noticeable difference here, though I do get a pop up asking me to do Windows 10 Premium every time start up. So far, no luck on figuring out how to turn that off.

Well as I have always been one to think, if it works...DON'T fix it! I had read all the horror stories of the windows10.....could there be any need for this to be placed on my new hot rod computer? Would it slow my computer down so much that when I am ready to pull the trigger on that last 2 second bid on eBay, would I miss that golden moment? And then what about all the really nice apps I have on my new computer? Will they wind up being just gone..a few bytes of cosmic ash...floating off into the internet cemetery...lost forever with some sort of old reruns of Rin Tin Tin.....and then I thought after reading the down load intel on it....hey..I can always do a restore if things are all bone headed on this...so...I gave it a whirl.....the over all down load made me worry. It seems it locked up my computer and nothing was going to happen correctly.....it warns you seriously...DO NOT TURN your computer off! Oh LORD what can I do now? The computer seems locked up...so if I turn it off...will that be the final doom? I waited for what seemed to be forever. Then all of a sudden...the windows program starts to show up....things are popping up on my desktop and I am seeing all the icons....the same icons I always had and a few new ones...look it here...a tool bar/task bar a bit different on the bottom of the window screen. 22 minutes of nightmare worry and pain....but look...it seems to be O.K., my browser is working...I ran to eBay and shot gunned a last moment bid to win on some cuff links for my Husband...email at yahoo and gmail and hotmail are all checking in just dandy....pictures are all fine....banking access not changed.....seems that all my worry and fear was for nothing. I am not sure I like this 10 better than my old windows7. But it works....now recall...the phrase..."if it works, don't fix it"....I'll leave the windows 10 alone for now, everything is working just ducky!

Long story short, except for some moments of concern during the process, she installed Windows 10 on her new computer and everything seems to be working properly.
