Need Some Advice on G-1

Just wanted the opinion of the more learned G-1 folks in the lounge on which jacket to pick. I have found that with the Cooper Sportswear G-1s, that the 46 R is OK with the body being a bit short (hikes up over my belt). The 48R is very roomy and only drawback...not one for me, is that the sleeves are a bit longer and I do get tunneling with the knits.
So, to my question. I have the opportunity to acquire a Blue Label Cooper 46L or a Pharr 46R or a Pharr 48. I am wondering if the 46L would work for me...longer arms and longer body or should I stick with the opportunity to acquire an issue Pharr, either in 46 or 48? Thanks for your advice and counsel.

My personal opinion is that the Pharr is a pretty crummy jacket.

I can't remember what I got in Pensacola back in the '90s, but it was much better than the Pharr I got in '04.



The Pharr even after ten years still looks kind of dumpy. The leather has no character and it still fits me like a bag.

I have only seen labeled Coopers in the exchange, but they generally looked better than the Pharr from what I recall. I don't know what company made the G-1 in the early '90s (Wiki suggests Cooper from '89-'96), but my contemporaries jackets seemed to look pretty good as long as you stay away from the pebbled leather models.

I have a similar issue between 46s and 48s. Even the early '70s (Brill Bros I believe) that I had was just a hair too tight in the shoulders. It might just be a standard sizing issue that you'll have to work around.

Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for the reply. Since we both are "in between" the 46 and 48, have you ever tried a 46L? I know that issue and NEX jackets were sized in Long and Talls. From what I have been able to determine, the Longs are longer in the sleeves and the body, with the shoulder width staying the same. Has that been your experience. I am following the jacket referenced below. Just wanted to know what you think. Thanks.

I'm no expert other than having worn several, but that paper tag below the Cooper label makes me think this might have been actual issue? Somebody else here would know. If not, it looks exactly like an issue one.

From the pics, it looks like a good G-1...better than the Pharr I'd say just in leather character.

The sizing I'm afraid I can't help you with. I was only ever issued two. A 44 as a slim lieutenant and a 48 as a fat LtCol. Actually, as I said, the shoulders were the limiting measurement for me on the 48...the body is plenty big. Too big.

You know, for the asking price, have you considered US Wings, who bought out Cooper IIRC?

If you are patient, you might wait for one of the older jackets to show up on ebay as well. Perhaps find a jacket that fits and measure what you need also. Many adverts seem to list sizes and I know now that anything less than 20 inches shoulder measurement (I don't think this guy measured it the common way) will be too tight for me.
