Hat Storage

Here's my rig with all my hats minus my WW homburg and Knox top hat which are on hat stands next to my desk, across from this unit.
At some point I owned about 120 but now I'm happily settled with 29 (actually 30 as there is one on its way which will go in the last remaining hook beneath the panama

)

They used to have a 3-tier version, but it seems to be unavailable from them at this point. I have three 3-tiers stacked for a 36-hat capacity rack.

I found these Arrow Hatracks at my local hatworks. They're made out of wire and shaped like an arrow. They screw into the wall and are great little space savers and great for displaying and storing my fedoras. (Would work great for cowboy hats too). And the bottom has a few hooks for flatcaps and ballcaps to hang from as well.

I found some pretty nice Tyvex "bags" at Hats in the Belfry. The items are described as travel cases, which they are certainly not... However, if one is seeking an insect and dust resistant storage container for under a bed etc. these are quite good at the price point.

I have found some cowboy hatracks which seem acceptable but would they be good for fur felt fedoras? What about bowlers?

NO MORE!

I recently bought 50 of the above in an effort to impose order upon chaos, seen below.

I plan to line the boxes with acid free buffered tissue paper in an effort to keep the hats out of an acidic environment. And then stack 'em like soldiers on a parade ground.

Thoughts?

Hi, Rick, why not invest in some hat trees (also known as coat racks)? They're a great space-saver and you can get them for pretty cheap at Target or Walmart. Then throw out all the boxes (not the nice hat boxes).

Hope you can figure this out, Rick. Let us know how it turns out. Some of us really need to know.

I hide my boxes in an elevated storage area in my garage. The hats are delicately stacked three at a time with spacers along the very high top shelf of our walk in closet going all the way around. Tonight, I hear my wife yell out from the closet, "Oh God! I've never looked up before. I didn't know you had THIS MANY hats!" Woops.

I have "my room" which was originally dedicated to storing and displaying my cowboy boots, a quiet place to get away and fool with my guitars but now, since I've made so many new "hat" friends, I'm having to move hats or boxes just to put on a pair of boots.

Oh yeah, as I write this I'm looking at my acoustic Guild sitting in the dining room.
