WTB: Lewis Leathers Dominator (40-42 / L)

Messages

Hi!

Long shot, I know, but I would like to own a Lewis Leathers (to think I could've had it for a few $'s) and what better jacket to start with than a Dominator so... Hoping to acquire a LL Dominator in a size 40 to 42 (perhaps 44) or L. New ones are a bit too pricey for my pocket and for some insane reason, they're even more expensive on eBay, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone here has got one they bought during their pvnk days and want to pass it on now for a reasonable price. :) Don't care about the condition, just as long as the jacket is holding together.

Thanks and cheers!

Try hunting too for a used example from the original Highwayman company; they had jackets that were a dead ringer for most of the Lewis line (some of which seem to have come before, and some after the Lewis equivalent).

Also.... re a previous question in another thread, the Rin Tanaka book on the history of the motor cycle does cover some British jackets - Highwayman, Lewis and Mascot.

Edward, thanks for the tip! I've recently been looking for a Highwayman brand jackets as well, but all sorts of things show up... At least they're not named Durable, like the company that supposedly made Brando's 'The Wild One' Perfecto; try searching for 'Durable leather jacket' on eBay. lol It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

There are a few but with fringes and same as you, I'm not too crazy about fringes. They seem to be picking up in price, though? Rivets / HWM brand jackets, I mean.

I see a lot of nice looking cheapos on random Japanese sites, but can't seem to find one on the bay. Shame...

Would still make me very happy to lay me hands on one of these. Very interested in similar looking British Rocker jackets (Mascot, etc.) too. Man, how do you look for these British jackets on the Bay, anyway? Only Cafe Racers and Perfectos pop up... :(

I've got this already saved as a search. :) Month ago I 'won' such a fantastic jacket on eBay, but then the seller told me that the shipping to where I am would be a 100GBP. The jacket was 33 quid. Luckily, he was reasonable enough not to insist I go through with the purchase. The shipping calculator on the bay said it would be 15GBP, by the by.

The ebay seller "Leather Monkeys" often has this style for auction or BIN. I believe they also have their own line of leathers as well...

I was checking their site but Dominator rarely pops up. They have a very nice looking Corsair repro, though. Thanks!

Bump! I plan on getting this jacket either way but I'm still hoping to save a few $ if someone has one they no longer want. I wish the Dominators on Yahoo auctions weren't so tiny.

The LL Corsair is also on the same pattern as the Dominator. My limited experience is that I perceive LL sizes a bit on the small size. When I visited the LL store in London a few months ago, I found I needed a size 44 for the Dominator/Corsair whereas I generally wear an Aero size 42. Keep this in mind as a LL size 40 might be too tight for you. Maybe Carlos will see this and comment as I recall he has a LL Dominator that fits him perfectly. Good hunting!

Thanks so much for the tip, Fanch! It was Carlos' Dominator thread that got me thinking a 40 to 42 would be good for me but of course, I cannot be sure. Damn, I wish my Phantom hadn't lost the size tag... Man, I would I could visit LL's shop, just to see the jackets in person.

Have you thought about emailing them with the measurements of your jacket and asking what size it corresponds too?

I did and they said it's a match for a size 40, however as this was so long ago, it's impossible to tell for sure. They've tweaked the pattern since, probably moved the size numbers in general up or down & mine could've been a custom made. Plus the Dominator is an entirely different fit so I can't be sure. And I don't want to bother them with my measurements as I'd hate to be that guy that goes into the store and tries all the jackets, just to figure out what to look for on eBay.

I'm fairly convinced that the 40 would be perfect for me, though. Not that it matters, though. These rarely ever pop up for sale, anyway.
