These boots from Italian maker Scarosso have a very nice heel shape. In fact, the entire boot is very well balanced in my opinion. And the price isn't all that bad: €259.

I'm still on the look out for a pair of Balmoral boots to wear with white / off-white summer outfits.

You know I am as hopeful as you are on this counter shape, but after speaking to a few bootmakers they all say the same thing, the counter shape forms in the heel through wear, it is almost hollowed out from years of usage, this is why most of the lovely counter shapes we admire are in old boots. That, and from the shaft being perhaps a tad narrower, as we were slimmer back then. Fat ankles is our generation sadly. The factories have all pointed to my foot saying does your achillies not go pretty much straight now into your heel, with the exception of a few cm's? Grrr. etc. Carry on.

Simon, these are deadstock:

... so the ankle can't have indented in by years of use.

i'm not saying that some old boots don't show a degree of in-curve due to use. of course they do.
but, it sounds like the makers are trying to fob you off with excuses. Grenson did pretty good with their 'Foot the Coacher' collaboration.

I agree with hbk. My boots are unworn and have an extreme curve. Either they don't know what they are talking about or they are trying to cut corners. I'll send you the boots with the toile. No use denying it when you can show them the proof.

Yes of course the other thing which makes the counter rounded is a narrow shaft that draws it in.

Don't think any of these photos have made it further than the TFL Facebook page, but here is a shot of SJC's new Balmoral boot, this pair is done in sand suede and acorn calf, but the boots are also being offered in quieter make-ups: oxblood and black calf. They are pretty fetching, and going for a steal right now at simonjamescathcart.com. They are crafted at a factory in Northampton, the historic center of all things shoos in the UK. A number of august members of this forum had a hand in making these a thing. I think they look pretty good.

I just bought these charming balmorals and boot trees off a bloke on facebook. He thought they were from early 20th century. I wondered whether they're Grensons. Might anyone have an idea? I'm really curious.
