One type of jacket I was looking for was a black, one piece back, of horse hide with a classic collar type.

There were several nice alternatives, like the Aero Sheene, Vanson Enfield that also comes in a slimmer Japan market version, Johnson Leathers also has similar jacket and some others.

I finally opted for the Schott 689H. Would say that this is a highly recommended option. Its a really great design and also well made.

The leather is tough, but not too stiff to require break in. This FQHH also looks very nice. And I didn't expect the jacket to be so fitted, but I didn't size up.

The leather is shiny and the golden hardware stands out, so its not maybe for everyone.

I'm kidding! Congrats! But really, I'd love to see it! I've always wanted this jacket.

Do the new 689H no longer have the fused in leather stiffener to make the horse hide thicker? I had a 689H about 5 years ago, that had the fused liner under the quilted liner to make the leather feel stiffer.

Yep, they've stopped doing that the second people started complaining. Which is nice! Both skins ought to be 3oz.

That's awesome! Fit is perfect, and that nice simple design with the one piece back is quite impressive! Does it have an insulating liner (quited) or is it just cotton inside? I also like the "shiny" leather, it will break in well soon enough.

Jägernaut, I got mine from eBay for around $600 shipped. Unfortunately with the loonie on the low it ended being quite a bit more.

AeroFan_07, it has a kilted liner. With a T-shirt its not comfortable bellow 0oC (32oF). It offers around the same warm as the PER2 (steer hide and cotton lining).

Kronos77, I'm 1.83m (6'0"). Just measured the back from the bottom of the collar and its around 25". With the shirt tucked in it wouldn't look short.

Well, if you have been wearing it daily and sometimes sleeping in it, she should be good to go by spring time. My Horsehides all stood up in formation when not in use. Now, they flop over a chair like a towel. Even with winter use, nothing soften them up like 100 mph winds! Nice jacket. The brass IS the class.
