A friend of mine emailed me this and it made kind've sick. I wonder how it is going to take for this to come around and bite us in the rear-end:

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN)
for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his
electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI
LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).
After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he
sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend
today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA)
he got in his car ( MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good
paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless
day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN
BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV
(MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job
in.....AMERICA......

A devout capitalist in Los Angeles CA.
The US was a manufacturing based economy
other countries pay less to workers so companies being the capitalist structures that they are moved to where their dollar would go farther.

The US became a service based economy.
then those jobs started to leave. Now when you call Dell you get a highly educated employee that will work for half the cost in India.

The internet hasn't helped either. It is a deflationary tool.

used to be you you would go to the nearest store and pay full price for a pair of shoes, the store and the employess would benefit. Now you find the cheapest seller on line or go on Ebay and the store next door can only compete by matching prices. cutting prices means less pay and less employees.

Mom and Pop go out of business and Wallmart orders a few million more shirts from China after importing most of our cotton.

Productivity is a nice buzz word for companies to use, but it also stands for less workers can do more. As productivity rises, sprint lays off 3,000 more workers.
