Just wondering what adventure gear, and clothing, you all like. Maybe we can post some pictures...

Here's a picture of what I used when in Arizona. Open carry was just great!


Here are a few of my Swiss backpack. I need to add a sternum-strap to keep the shoulder straps from digging in.

Glad you could join us Havana Joe. That's a fine adventurer's kit you have! However, it's mostly a discussion thread. You've definitely got the right place for showing off the actual gear (something more of us need to do)!

I'll ask gun questions...

Open carry is nice, isn't it? Don't have to worry about vests, jackets or overshirts. If you've never had the chance, open carry in a city is eye opening. Most of the people are so caught up in themselves they don't notice the gun at all. Some will ask if you're a cop, some will want to talk guns and some will look at you like you are wearing a sash made of severed puppy heads. Haven't had the cops called yet.

What are you packing there, Model 10 Victory Model? Where were you carrying the Centennial?

I think your name looks familiar from COW (the whip would be a clue as well), if so, why use the open-top single action holster as opposed to getting some real weathering and use on the flap holster?

The older revolver is a S&W model 10 in .38 Special. I got it from a Korean War Pilot's daughter for $100. It was his carry gun when he flew, but he was now getting senile and very sick. It has a little bit of holster wear, especially at the barrel tip, but is tight like new. Several people at a gun show looked at it and said it may be WW2 issue, but looks like it's had very few rounds put through it. The grips cerial number match the gun.

The gun belt was a gift and I had the holster made by a local. I thought about getting a flap holster, but am waiting for the Model 1917, or probably the new Model 22 for that. The snubbie is a Charter Arms Undercover, and it sometimes went in the Indy Bag, sometimes in a pocket.

Open carry is great, 'cause you can carry a service size pistol without having to hastle about what to wear to cover it. I got lost in Phoenix once, in a bad area, and pulled into a gas station to ask directions. There were some real seedy gang types all cocky and eyeing me, and then they saw the stainless 1911 Commander on my hip, cocked and locked, and everybody got really docile. Funny.

Yeah, I found it amazing how many people didn't have a clue about the laws in their own state!

I just picked up a 6" Smith 629 (stainless) for a field gun. I need to get a holster ordered from simplyrugged.com. Probably the Sourdough or Loaded pancake. Thought the Flip Top has a vintage-y appeal.

I really need to get my digital camera up and running.

629, big gun. I'm thinking about the S&W Model 22

22 and 29. Same N-frame. Same cylinder size. Yours will just be pretty and blue.

I'd like to get a 1917 as well at some point. I had to put pragmatism first in this case.

The 22 looks a great deal like the 1917 in my opinion. Close enough to be an Indy style gun, and you get a new gun for less than what I've seen for a 1917these days. It'll look cool with vintage style safari gear too, especially if one installs a lanyard ring!

I thought this thread got merged with the other "Adventure Gear" thread, but it seems they left this for us to use more specifically for PICTURES of the gear we like...
So, here goes....

I'm still putting my adventurer outfit together, but I'm leaning more towards merging these






than the much more common

Nothing wrong with Indy, just not quite my style...

Some of our hunting rifles and my pistol/cartridge belt with both pistol rounds and 270WBY/30.06 loops.
