The wife and I went to see the new Tarzan movie in the theater. Paid $5 each, at that price it was good. I am glad I saw it in the theater but would not have been happy at the usual $9. The plot was ok but it needed a better pace and was a bit far fetched in a few areas. I did not like the lead actor but Samuel Jackson,Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou were good.

However visually it was pretty great. The costumes/outfits, gear and weapons were outstanding. That alone was worth the price.

I'm curious to see that one. I gather he wears *trousers* - very low-waisted ones at that - which seems odd for Tarzan. Be interesting to compare it to the eighties Greystokes, and all those old Johnnny Weissmullers I used to watch years back.

My girlfriend's response to you would be "I can't hear you as I'm looking at Alexander Skarsgard." As someone who has never noticed a woman's physical appearance, I don't understand my girlfriend's shallow focus on a man's looks over his character [:)], but I think her view explains why the director probably cared a lot less about historical accuracy and more about showing off Skarsgard's ridiculous body.

I really enjoyed it. We also watched Greystoke over the weekend and do think that was a more accurate portrayal of Tarzan's character - half Earl of Greystoke, have wild man!

Ha, well..... you can't argue with that. Welcome to gender-equality cinema. ;) He looks good as Tarzan, though.

There are of course much darker interpretations of Tarzan possible, given the time in which ERB was writing, but I like to think of it as a treatise on how a human might develop away from the nurture of its own kind. (Similar in that respect to the Jungle Book, I suppose, but this was more of a deal in Tarzan, I think.) From the sound of things, the plot for this new film is not a million miles away from Crocodile Dundee II....
