Indianapolis: A Vintagey Place to Live

That's one thing I love about Indianapolis--you can be in the country or in a park within a few minutes, even in town. Denver was a big mass of suburban sprawl--it's Los Angeles without the beach. The cost of living is great, too. My car insurance is half what it was and my health insurance through my employer is a fraction of what it was for a similar plan.

If you live in or near one of the ghettoes, it's good to have some specific street smarts.

You need to check out Doc's Architectural Salvage (http://docsarchitecturalsalvage.com) on 30th Street. Very sketchy neighborhood and Doc's been telling me he's moving for years... but was there last time I talked with him. He opened another warehouse in Springfield TN, off I-65 just south of the Kentucky border. I go there for doors, windows, cabinet fixtures, junk, etc. I was getting old-growth timber and vintage floor grates for projects from him for the longest time. He's a great guy (Doc Sr.), but call first to be sure he's there and not in TN.
