I was hoping this might be a 'loose' 7 1/4


I was thinking I would stretch it up, even got a haircut.


But, alas, no chance. In fact it is now a solid 7 1/8



SO... down the line it goes. It is in great shape and appears to be in 9+ condition. The sweatband is as thin as a sheet of paper and entirely intact. Lovely hat, just wish it fit. And even in my hands, I cannot tell if its a toquilla straw or not. But either way, it's quite distinctive and I am just looking to recover my $$$ output, not make money so it's just $32 +shipping. Trades are cool too, 7 3/8 and above, or... surprise me.

All I can discern is "Made in USA" & it is very vintage.
Other than that I know nothing, have never seen one and wish like hell it fit, but... c'est la vie, eh?

I'll post some additional information on this interesting hat in the panama thread. Patent research shows it to be paper fiber woven to resemble a Bangkok hat of the day and then put through a chemical treatment to make it impervious to water. The patent is from 1935 but it is referenced again by Frank Lee and Hat Corporation of America in the late 1950s-1960. I was unsure on the actual era - until I found this Staten Island Railway ticket carefully folded up as size adjuster behind the sweatband. Thank goodness for small headed men!
