Here are some modern shooters with period hats. If the name of the shooting range looks familiar, that's because it is the Alvin York farm made famous in the movie. The extra long rifles are reproductions of the type Alvin used to win so many competitions. They are also why the movie erroneously had Alvin shooting an old Kentucky rifle 100 years after the rifle went out of style. What these long rifles were called is Chunk Guns. They are hand made and designed to place the bullet in the middle of the bulls eye every time. The winner often defeats his opponent by minute fractions of an inch. They had false muzzles put on the barrel, so no damage would be done loading, and they were cleaned between every shot, painstakingly loaded.
