I regret I never saw the original Skynyrd lineup.:(
But then, I was just a wee lad.
another lineup I would have loved to see

that is one band that really doesn't get the credit they deserve ... that was one kick ass band ... for real !

with Ronnie , Allen, and Artimus ... even Steve ... that band was fire

from Pronounced to Street Survivors you hear one of the best damn rock bands of all time ... hands down

I grew up in Florida and Georgia, so Skynyrd was always tops in my book.

I've spoke about this here before

a friend of mine owns one of Ronnies hats ... he bought it at an auction some years ago for crazy money

Ronnies former wife has been stalking him for years for it ... even got all kinds of lawyers involved

crazy

sweet hat too

Ronnie had a tiny head :)

Underappreciated for sure. They erroneously get dumped into the Southern Rock category with the implicit notion this makes them limited in musicianship. They were a "full circle" band. The British glommed on to southern blues, turned it around and gave it back to the US. Folks like LS turned it right back around, incorporating the British influences right back into their regional brand. They were going to really stretch it musically if they'd been able to keep at it after Street Survivors.

Wouldn't mind having a repro of one of his hats, they were cool.

Yeah Jim, I think they could have done some great things.

Saw them in Springfield, Missouri on July 8, 1977. I was seventeen and they were awesome! It still ranks up there as one of the best concerts I've attended (and I was on the front row of a Captain and Tennille concert ... was even in the spotlight for "Muskrat Love").

This is the Ronnie Van Zant hat I remember:

this is the actual hat my buddy has ... Ronnies wife has been going bananas for years

I even suggested he just give it to her ... to which he replied ... "so it can hang in a damn restaurant ?... hell no !!"

the hat is tiny
