Great grandparents

I see where you get your high crowns from Perry! Looks like there was enough headroom in the car to keep his hat on.

1948 Oat harvest. My great
grandfather with his hand on the combine and my grandfather on the tractor.

By the mid 60s our family had switched from row crops to cattle and hay. I love this picture and the running joke in the family was this was the only time any of them could remember Pop wearing a cowboy hat.

I always thought Uncle Jack might have another family out there somewhere!

My mother was my father's third wife (I only knew about two prior to his death, though it apparently wasn't a secret - I was just oblivious ). His first, when he was in WWII, was in the Seattle area. I had business out there several years ago and looked my (not common) family name up in the phone book. There were many more than I thought there would be. My reaction was, "Dad! You were busier than I thought!"

Did you make contact with any of them?

Here's an interesting story of a friend of mine. I'll leave out some identifiers but she was an only child & her parents were older when she was born. As an adult she knew the FBI would have files on each of her parents so after they passed she filed FOIA's. Imagine her surprise when she learned from FBI files her mother had lost a baby two yrs before my friend was born! She couldn't believe her mom never told her, even after she was a grown woman. And she was surprised the FBI would know such personal information apparently thru their surveillance.

No, I didn't. I was only there for a day or so, then headed east to another site to do some field work. I kind of doubt they were really closely related.

...or shot the buck on the way to church?
That's so funny that you'd say that, Bob. Not a deer, but on our way to church one day my Dad put his shotgun in the back of the car before we left the house... I was like, whaaaaaaaaaaat???????? Sure enough, about 1/2 mile down the road he pulled off, walked to the back of the car, appeared with the shotgun and tagged a couple pheasant.... which we then took back to the house and were late to church, LOL. Ah, memories of murdered animals kil't for Sunday dinner. :D
