Any feedback on these guys? Quality of their jackets, and their customer service? It appears they have an "off the rack" G-1 that would be a good fit for me.

I just pulled the trigger, ordered the G-1 in a 40R. This was Shaul's recommendation for a "fitted" look.

I've had Shaul do some alteration work for me on several jackets. The quality of the work was excellent and the turnaround time was super quick. I don't have any experience with his jackets.

If you do a search there's lots of feedback on these. Most negative in recent times. But there are fans. The jackets are fairly oversized and the goat is the best of a fairly mediocre selection.

Shaul recommended a size too large when I spoke to him about a trim fit.

Their sizing runs long-but-trim (*) - which doesn't work on a widebody like me - but they are pretty good generic repros for their moderate price. They are a small operation, and their jackets have a more rough-hewn, handmade feel than other makers. If their odd sizing works for you, great.

(* I had a size 44R horsehide A-2. It was nearly two inches longer in both body and sleeves than my size 46R G&B jackets, known for their "generous modern fit"!)

Trim? Not anymore. The 42, says Shaul, comes in at close to 25 inches pit to pit. That's Gibson and Barnes wide. About 2-3 inches wider than a trim fit I'd say.

I have a U.S Authentic G-1 that I custom ordered in black goatskin about six months ago. The hide is very nice in my opinion, much thicker and more supple than the Cockpit G-1 I owned briefly. Before I placed the order I spoke to Shaul on the phone to confirm some sizing questions about the jacket and I found him to be a real character, very brusque and to the point! The jacket arrived four days after I placed the order which blew me away as I am used to waiting weeks or months for other makers.
The G-1 was larger than it was supposed to be when it arrived, as well as too long in the sleeves and the body. Shaul offered to alter it for me when I emailed him but I decided to roll the dice and try the hot water treatment instead...
Luck was on my side this time, and the HWT worked beautifully. The jacket shrunk down to the size I wanted and the grain popped out beautifully. I am very happy with my U.S. Authentic
G-1, I wore it the last two days as a matter of fact.

Shaul gave me the specs on both a 40 and a 42. This was after I gave him my personal data, and my desire for the jacket size. He said the 40 would be a good trim fit, while the 42 would allow for layering underneath, such as a sweater.
I ordered the 40R. Note that my new 42R Cockpit G-1 was sold (bargain price) as it was just a tiny bit tight when sitting with the jacket fully zipped up. My 44R Wings (Signature) G-1 is too long in the body and sleeves, by about an inch, but fits good in the shoulder and chest area.

You know, I got my US A A-2 way back in 2002. Their cut and sizing could be completely different now. Going forward, I will stop reporting my experience with their sizing.

TXFlyGuy, I look forward to your impressions of this jacket, as I think we are about the same size. I really enjoy the Excelled A-2, in a size 38R, that you recommended to me some time back on that sale they offered; you were right about the size on that one for my size 40 frame, as they do run large.

If this G-1 is as hoped for, you will have just cost me more money (again), dammit............

Wow, this is almost as big as my size 42R G-1 jackets by Eastman and Cockpit USA.

And that is why a 40 was ordered. I gave them all of my info. They suggested the 40 for a slim fit, or a 42 for a relaxed fit.
Of all the jackets looked at recently, these measurements come closest to my ideal specs.

That, as a roomy 42, would fit me but I'm trim. A vintage 40 would be P to P 21 shoulders 18.5. The wide shoulders at 20.5 go a long way to that unfortunate 1980's baggy look. Although I might be able to get away with it.

Interesting. My US Wings G-1, size 44R, has a shoulder span of 18.5". And P to P is 22".
My G&B A-2 has a shoulder span of 20". It actually fits very nice, not baggy at all.
