Thanks Dean!

This is the hat as creased. Not sure if I will change it or not. I usually like to wear it a time or two and then decide.

Thanks Rick. I always like to see those original creases from back in the day...

Got my first open road in today. Shudde Bros Royal Stetson.
It doesn't say open road anywhere but it sure looks it. The liner was just taped in and I only found store markings. Was this hat made especially for this store? The felt is nice and soft. It's a little tight but does fit. However, this thing sits high on my head and is already pushing the crease. Is it normal for this style hat to sit high? I can't decide if I want to leave it as is minus the mule kicks or try something else.

I've got a Shudde Bros. hat also, but unlike yours it doesn't have any markings at all `and the leather sweat band just says Shudde Bros. As I understand, Shudde Bros refurbished Stetsons under license to Stetson. So, I believe you have an Open Road.

I think it's fair to call 'em Open Roads even without the markings. My wife and I have identical 3X Open Roads - exactly alike except for size. However, hers has the Open Road mark while mine doesn't.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

As bad as I wanted to like the cattlemen crease on my open road I couldnt help fooling with it. This is just a dry bash into a fedora pinch. I'll have to wet it to remove some of the bumps but I think I like this better.

That looks really great! Handle it and make it your own. If you want to grab it by the pinch do it. That's how a hat takes on real character

I have a Stetson Open Road black fedora, styled as a traditional fedora, not the cattleman LBJ type. (I don't think most women look good in that style, anyway.)

I also have a Dobbs silverbelly hat that I got off ebay and it was styled in the classic LBJ Open Road. I bashed around with it, finally took it into the Hat Works in San Diego and had them clean it and reshape it into fedora style.

I am an Open Road fan, as long as I can bash it the way I want.

I am not sure what this is but I really like it since it is old and was from the Texas Ranger and or Dept of Highways style.

True enough. I like the cattleman crease, but the up-brim doesn't suit me. So I wear my ORs brim down in front. You could try one of yours that way:

ORs are completely unknown in these parts -- I have literally never seen another hat wearer with one, not as a fedora or as anything else. Possibly you have to cross over into Texas to see an OR in its natural habitat.
