Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Picked up these vintage cross stitch / embroidery pieces for $1.00 each at a small town (Mt. Grove, Missouri) thrift. They were done on flour sacks and some of the mounting is pretty interesting.

Paillard talking machine, fully functional.

Tea canister for $3.00. The maker's name was in use from 1919 - 1938.

Here are some finds I got.

Farah slacks. I thought these pants were 60s, but the label made me a bit wary as it's the style the 80s. I'm still kind of unsure of when these pants are from because while the label appears to be the 80s one, the style of the pants appears to be 60s with short belt loops and a 13" rise. The shirt is just a K-Mart shirt.





Saddles tab-collar shirt + what I think has to be one of the first Dacron ties ever made. I don't know when the shirt is from. It's made in Hong-Kong, but it's got a tab collar which you don't see very often these days. At a first glance, the tie appears to be a 40s or 50s tie because it is stitched as such and it is 51" long and 3 3/4" wide. Oddly enough, the tie is made from Dacron. I did not know Dacron was around in the late 40s-early 50s era.







Eagle shirt. Also a tab-collar which I had read was popular in the 60s. I'm not sure when this shirt is from.





Huntmaster by Resilio. If my research was correct, it seems Resilio was a company owned by Wembley. This shirt is really interesting because it appears to be a long-sleeve polo shirt, but it has button cuffs, seemingly wider collar with collar stays, 4 front buttons, and a front pocket. I must admit I'm quite clueless when it comes to polo shirts, so I'm guessing this shirt is from the 60s or 70s.





Semi Vitreous Edwin M. Knowles China Co. plate. The front says St. Louis 1904, but I don't know if that's when the plate is from or not. Unfortunately clumsy me dropped the bag they put it in when I got home and the plate got a chip on one corner.





"Learn How Book". Copyright 1959. It's funny: I got this book for 25 cents while the original price was 29 cents.



Plymouth Massachusetts key chain/pocket knife. I don't know how to date knives, but from the looks of it I'm guessing 60s or 70s.

Today I went to a local thrift store and picked up these guys.

The University Shop Eli Moore. No union label, but from the looks of it it's clearly a 60s sport coat.





Brooks Bros. tie. 52" long. 3" wide. Probably late 40s or 50s.





Vicky Davis. 50" long. 1 3/4" wide. Probably 60s.






Murray's Taggery Shop Nantucket Island. 51 1/2" long. 3" wide. Probably 50s or 60s.





Blue striped tie. 53" long. 3" wide. Probably late 60s.



Olive striped tie. 52" long. 3 1/2" wide. This one is tricky, but I'm guessing very early 70s.



Red woven tie. 51" long. 2 1/4" wide. Difficult to date to be honest, but I'm guessing late 60s.


Feinson's slacks. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of them. They are gray, and have a 13" rise. Hard to date, but they are similar looking to 60s pants.

Russian Vostok Komandirskie Watch
Picked this up this past weekend for only ten bucks! The dial is actually a copper-brown color but for some reason looks dark blue in the photo.

Found another sampler. Hard to pass up for $2.00







Also found this awesome needlepoint deer. I love this sort of stuff. Fits in well in our 1969 farm house in the middle of "Booger County" Missouri.



And then this original painting by a renowned local (Springfield, MO) artist. I have several of his prints of local landmarks. It's going to drive me nuts trying to find out where this house is. The artist (Paul Dorrough -- who grew up down the street from me) passed away in a house fire in 2013.

Thanks 2jakes. I've got his daughter's info somewhere. I don't know if she would know unless he cataloged the details of his paintings, but it's worth a shot. Beats driving around and looking (unless it's during garage sale season).

I don't have pictures of it, but I have a mink and leather bomber jacket that i bought for 20 bucks, and it's worth several thousand brand-new. dh66, that is a Lady's Gillette that uses regular double edge blades. They are excellent, well-balanced shaver for anyone.
