Thursday Boot Company

I'm looking for a pair of good boots that would work for flight use. The plan is to wear these with my nomex flight suit while flying the Mustang.

My issue is that my instep is high. Several pairs of boots from various manufacturers have been tried, but I could not get my foot into any of them. The tongue in each case was stitched up high enough that the boot would not "open up" to allow my foot to slide in.

My first pair came from G&B. They were gorgeous! But had to send them back. My foot would not go in...not at all, and they were my size in a 10D.

Thursday Boot Company appears to have a good product. Anyone here ever heard of them, or maybe own their boots?

Boots look nice. Affordable and well built. I'm no aviation expert but...When you say fly the mustang. Is it this one?

Wow man!!! That is awesome. Most bad ass plane ever!! I built so many models of these when I was a kid. This and the p-38 lightning were my faves! And the flip wing, corsair? Can't remember. I can't imagine what flying one of these is like! I really wanted to be a pilot as a kid but turned out I'm damn near blind and scared shitless of being up there.

Belleville is the issuer of the modern Navy brown flight boot. Not quite as pretty as the old officer boots. But they are super comfortable and steel toed, which has its virtues.

Also, Boeing has a series of shirts from all the companies they swallowed over the years, including North American.

Being a Mustang guy, thought you might be interested.

I always wore Bates tactical boots when I was flying. Started wearing them in the Navy because they were authorized flight deck boots. And as I remember they had a higher arch similar to the Asics running shoes I liked to wear. But if you're talking about a period-specific boot I'm no help. Although I did meet Bud Anderson (WW2 Mustang driver) at an airshow once and I seem to remember him mentioning to someone else that pilots would often wear whatever suited them.

I have emailed a couple boot companies, inquiring about the instep, and tongue stitching. Thursday Boot offers free shipping, and free returns. Waiting to hear back from them.

I have two pairs of Thursdays, brown Presidents and Midnight Blue Suede Captains, and find them very comfortable. I got them on the recommendation of my son who claimed they were good boots for long periods of standing, which, as a professor, is what I do. Nice looking as well. BTW, I fly a Mustang too - a 2007 GT.

Good to hear your opinion of Thursday. I am waiting to hear from them, but maybe you could answer the question...can the tongue be opened up all the way to allow your foot to slide in, or is it stitched way up near the top of the boot?

You can open them up all the way, and the insides are smoothly leather-lined so your foot slides nicely right on in.

Thanks! That is the info I was looking for. The order will be placed Monday. Do the sizes run small? I wear a 10D in all shoes, so should I order a size 10?

They run pretty much on the mark. Both pair of mine felt a bit tight in the upper part of the boot when I first got them but have broken in well. I just eased up on the laces a little at first. Go with your regular size.
One thing I noticed about both pairs was that I don't have to constantly straighten out the tongue as I'm lacing them, like I do with some of my other lace-ups. They seem to be made so it sits dead-center.

I've got a closet filled with boots. I've looked at the Thursday a few times, but never pulled the trigger. For me, the most comfortable/best built are my Thorogoods - the models that are not their standard "working boot" fair they sell at Cabela's and the like.
I've got a number (and a new pair on order) of the Portage, Dodgeville, and Beloit. I find them hard to beat on just a out every level...

Just heard back from Kendra (Thursday Boots). The entire tongue will open up if you loosen the laces a bit. Order to be placed today.

Easy to get on. But the tongue on all I checked are sewn about half way.
I have this issue too but not a problem with the Thorogood.
I don't like tongues not attached completely. Just a thing.
Let us know how they go.
