Sounds like a dig is in order!Cooler this afternoon so I went with a Stetson 4X Open Road (and some flannel) as we mapped the NW corner. The site of the "three acre exception" that was finally settled in 1972. It is the location of a large natural spring and, formerly, a moonshine still.
I love this picture! It has historical character, it looks much older than the 70s.Red -- thanks for asking. My wife's grandfather bought this place in 1967. The neighbor claims that the "foundation" of the still is there, but it just looks like natural rock to me. Might have to fire up a still down there sometime in the future. At least we can tell where the mill was (just in front of our house). Grandpa rebuilt the wheel in the 1970s and had a flume running from the lake up around the bend. We lost the lake dam 10 years ago to a flash flood and I don't have the funds to rebuild it or the mill wheel.

That sale was a few yrs ago & has been reported to have sold for as high as $53K (buyers premium, maybe?). The hat is on display at the 6th floor museum.
I used to compete with a compound crossbow. On practice times, sometimes I just grab a initiation bow and throw some arrows. The "pro" bows were too "hard".
Back then I didn't wore hats and I never tried it again.The longbow is only 40 lbs. draw weight, it is easy and smooth. I am trading the guy who made it another bow to make me a second one just a few lbs heavier draw. Either one will work for taking a deer with a sharp 2 blade broadhead. I gave up shooting heavy draw bows because of shoulder issues. Your hats would be an issue with shooting a bow, my tiny little hats with soft brims work fine

There's approximately 500 acres of old ore mining and processing site that ceased production in the 50s and was placed in a public land trust in the 70s as a nature preserve. It is open for public use, and a couple of the southern trailheads are only a couple of minutes worth of drive from my house.
