There's Sombreria Mil on the Carrer de Fontanella, they have been around forever: http://www.sombrereriamil.com/

I am sure @Kuki will be able to help you more, she lives in Barcelona.

By the way, did you google it or have you been there @Celia? Is there anything you don't know?! You always impress me with your hatty knowledge!

WHAT DID I JUST GET?

...it's a BAILEY from their "BREED" line and ID'ed as a 100% "fur blend" by which I hope I can safely presume there is no wool used.
Does anyone know? I have found Baileys current "Breed" offerings but this is not one of those.
Any ideas fellas?
I once asked a hat store owner what für blend meant, and he said it WAS a mixture of fur and wool. It looks like something an Amish guy would wear. I think it's a blank--which is just what I call them. It just hasn't been shaped yet. I remember going into a hat shop when I was a kid in the 60s, and every hat in the place look that way. I asked the old guy why he sold only one style of hat, and he laughed and told me that he shaped them the way the costumers wanted them when they bought them.

Both, it's been such a long time since I've been to Barcelona that I had to google it because I couldn't remember the address. Thanks for adding the other hat shop too. Do you have your own shop?

My hatty knowledge dwarfs in comparison to the knowledge of many other members here!

That might have been before the "Textile and Wool Acts". Now, any amount of wool in a hat has to be identified on the label by percent, or "all" if 100%. According to the Acts, the term “fur fiber” may be used to describe the hair or fur fiber — or mixtures thereof — of any animals other than the sheep, lamb, Angora goat, Cashmere goat, camel, alpaca, llama and vicuna.

I hope this helps.

It doesn't help me at all. I don't really care. I was just passing on some information to someone else. That's what a hat shop owner told me, about 20years ago. Honestly, I understand a lot of you folks are real fans and experts on hats, but I really don't care that much.

Well, yeah. Discussing hats, investigating history, showing different styles and commenting on them is kinda the reason we're here, Colonel.

Cheers,

I don't mean to sound rude, but if you "really don't care that much" why are you a member of the Lounge?

Please don't make the mistake of assuming that when I said I don't care, that means I don't care about anything on this forum. I was responding to one specific comment made to me personally. What that one person had to say I didn't, personally, care about. COME ON! You can't really think that one comment to one person means I don't care about ANYTHING on this entire site. That's just absurd.

Colonel it is simply an open crown hat.
this is the way most finer quality hats are still sold

Yep, here's an example of my custom from Mike at NW Hats:

As finished when I went to pick up the hat:

I quoted your reply so that your information would not mislead the questioner, as is customary in public forums. I simply provided correct information to the OP's question about fur blend. It's a mistake to consider that reply as a personal dialog between us in the context of a public forum.

However, I'm surprised that you do not care what "fur blend" means since you cared enough to post your belief as to the meaning. But now that I understand your position, I will try to make certain that I do not provide correct information for you in the future as it seems to upset you.

Firstly, I did not post my "belief as to the meaning," I posted what a hat store owner told me. I think a big problem with these forums and comment sections is that people are always misquoting each other, and accusing each other of saying things they haven't actually said. This is what you yourself just did, and it's happened to me several times now. I'm always very careful not to do that to others.
Secondly, my apology for mistaking your previous post for a personal dialogue (but certainly this one is). I've been having a big problem with that. I'm new here, it's the first forum I have ever joined, and unaccustomed to the way things work. It was my assumption that when someone quotes me, he or she is writing to me personally (in fact, this has always been the case); although I do understand that some comments are for readers in general. I have done this myself, but I've always made sure to let someone know that it is not just for him but everyone. However, I'm finding it a big problem when someone does write to me personally, as you have just done, but does so by starting a new post or by quoting me, as apposed to clicking on the reply button. In other words, if I write to someone personally, I use the reply button, isn't that what it's for? if I make a comment, on that reply, intended for others in general, I make sure to let that person know.
So, just to make sure everyone really understands (and this is for everyone now): The "reply" button is supposed to be used when one wants to make a reply or comment to someone personally--but thus far, no one have ever done this with me. The "quote" option is supposed to be for just that--to quote something someone said, when one is making a comment pertinent to that quote, not to get someone's attention for the purpose of starting a personal dialogue--and yet, thus far, that is how everyone has been using it for me.
It seems to me, if you people would just use the "reply" button and "quote" option the way they were, apparently, meant to be used, a lot of us would not be so confused! I use these things correctly, and I've only been a member for three days, so I am not going to apologize for not using these options willy-nilly like everyone else seems to be doing.
Furthermore, and I can not stress this strongly enough, it greatly offends me when I am misquoted or accused of saying something I didn't say. I DO NOT do these things to others. Also, I know perfectly well that this is a forum, I'm not stupid. However, and this is now just my opinion, just because it's an open forum, I don't think it should be acceptable for someone to jump into a personal conversation between two people just to tell one of those people he is wrong and to brag about how much he or she knows. You're not helping a beginner, like I, by shooting down every thing he says and telling him he's wrong; you're just encouraging him to quit and give up. And that's exactly what I'm doing, you'll all be glad to know. I'm moving on. I've already asked Fedora Lounge to explain to me how to cancel my membership. I don't want to be a member of something who's other members are a bunch of know-it-alls, who think it's perfectly okay to misquote each other, to accuse other members of saying things they didn't say, and to gang-up and bully their new members.

As a fairly new member, I can understand your feelings. For me, being a relative newbie here, I expect people to update or correct any information I may post that happens to be outdated or incorrect. I can't speak to the intent of others specifically, but that's the way I took the post from rogerstg, whether he was posting directly to me or generally to the board as a whole.

I hope you don't feel ganged up on, and you do continue to hang out here. I see you are from Germany, and your English is excellent... but even between same language speakers, lots can be lost in translation simply because the message is only in writing, without emotions, inflections of voice, eye and facial expressions, etc.

I have enjoyed reading your posts. Have a great evening.

Well, the reply button is to reply to someone, but the quote button is for multi-quotes.

I too am regretful if you feel "ganged up on" and if you're actually leaving, that's too bad as well. I view everybody on here as having a value to the forum.

However, if you had the impression you were commenting in a vacuum, that is incorrect. If you wish to have a private dialogue with a fellow member, there are tools for that; you can PM them directly.

This is a public forum. Your comments are public and will be read and commented on by others. This is also a forum where the members are interested in discussing the history and function of an element of fashion. We are interested in construction, terminology, etc. and use it as a repository of accurate knowledge. Many use this site as a reference site, and as members, we're interested in keeping the knowledge imparted by this site correct. Some of what you have written in this and other threads is at least debatable, and other members have chimed in to be part of the discussion. It is not rude of them to do so.

Think of this as a big cocktail party with folks intermingling and joining various conversations as topics of interest arise.

If you find this off-putting, perhaps this isn't the party you should have attended. If this is the case, Godspeed to you, sir. If you wish to come back and discuss things, you are welcome to that, as well.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

...yeah, as it is a current production model I DO think it would have to reveal any/all fiber content. We'll see.
