I've wore hard hat as a lineman for years,
retired now and just want something that can go anywhere.
Shame that you are retired, you would have loved my hard hat.

I have to second the idea of an Open Road style hat as a go-anywhere lid. Whether shaped as a fedora or with the more traditional Western cattleman crease, front brim up or down, it is a hat with authority -- the look not so much of a cowboy who works on the ranch, but of the man who OWNS the ranch.

Thanks for the suggestions, believe I've got it narrowed down to a couple hats.

Will post pictures sitting next to my 1920s Glenwood coal base heater.

The OR and its many clones are among the most versatile hats ever made. I like wearing mine in the fedora style, much like the OR that Jimmy Stewart wore in, "FBI". I like Strats and mid ribbons, too, Playboys and Wanderers. Also versatile hats.

I often save pictures from other folks here on the Lounge, then look at them for inspiration.

Art can give you ideas, too. Just send him a picture of yourself. Also, check out the styles on his website.

Do you like old movies? There will be some great ideas there, as Hemingway said. Bogart films have great lids. That man could wear a hat!
