I've just sent a hat to Bond to fix up. It is a custom hat from Tonyb, in a nice silverbelly felt. BUT it gets NO head time and is a wide ribbon hat with a contrasting color brim edge on it. So I sent it to Bond to "true up" the brim and then to change out the ribbons....I am sure it will look like a million when he is done.

Forgot to post my other Resistol Stagecoach conversion as I said I would. Here it is...

Added a thin ribbon with a Campaign style bow and gave the crown a nice deep and straight sided Teardrop crease

The hat looked nice before the conversion, one point of desire was the ribbon work done by TonyB as he does his ribbons with a bit more "class and style" then some of the other hatters....but...the hat just did not look good on Daniel. The thin ribbons are what he likes to wear. He will be liking wearing this hat now....!

We do not own any fur felt hats that do not have a brim edge treatment on them....but now after seeing some nicer hats here that have no brim edge with a ribbon...makes me think that can be real attractive!

As Perry Mason said, Holy Crap Batman! Hahahah er oh or was that Robin? You have a good eye for forming up a hat and then doing the finish work. All of your conversions have been nice as hell!
I believe you were right the first time. I think it was Perry Mason! ...and thank you, Cindy. I appreciate that.

You are most welcome...I think it is so great that so many people here have the talent to fix up their hats and also for others to have hats done. It is amazing how nice some of these conversions look. Makes me want to buy another hat to just have it fixed up! Haha!

A couple more Westerns on blocks getting ready for conversions. First, my thanks to Moon for giving these hats to me.

Stetson 4X, Chocolate Brown. Had some dye to rinse out of this one. Should be okay, though. Happened before. No problems. Also, it had a couple of small moth bites in the front. They'll be in the back, now.

Resistol. Couldn't save the sweat. It was brittle and came apart. If possible, I like to save as much as I can of what was original to the hats and put them back into my conversions, sweats, liners, etc.

I need to find ribbons, sweats, and definitely more hatting tools to work with. I have very few tools to work with.

The brims on these Westerns were 3 1/2 inches wide. Westerns with brims of 4 inches and over I keep as westerns.

Again, My thanks to Moon for these hats.

Whoa! Here's a first. I expected this from cheaper made hats but not from Stetson! What I usually find on most of the more "recent vintage" hats is that the liners are tack glued in four small places around the inside, front, back, and on both sides, (back in the day, though, earlier vintage hats had the liners sewn in). This Stetson was fully glued all over the inside! I put it on the block last night, went to take it off this morning and it was stuck! I was finally able to peel it off carefully without any damage to the hat. Another surprise, (a good one), is that the felt is "finished" on the inside. Well, I'm going to set it aside and work on it again in the future when I can afford to buy a decent straight sided 7 1/4 block. I'll remove the glue and reblock it with the inside turned out. Gets pretty d*mned frustrating to put projects on hold for lack of tools.

Meanwhile, my new Resistol project is moving along.
