I just picked up this vintage Beck captain hat on Craigslist here in California. It is an original maybe from the 30s or 40s maybe 50s. It's in great shape and size 7 1/8,it has a very ornate union label with a bold serial number on it but the rest of label is faded. I saw one NOS just like it on Ebay and they are asking $495.00 for it. It's a great classic looking hat and I will wear it. I also just ordered a New York Hat Co Brando hat today, one in Denim and one in Canvas Khaki color. Here's hoping my photos will appear.

Thanks guys, I saw the hat on Craigslist and drove to buy it and the old biker I met knew it was worth much more but was only asking $50.00 for it, I had done some research and knew what it was and its worth. Under the circular clear lining inside the hat it the size and the "Gold" imprinted name on "Beck". It's in very good condition for its age with no holes or bad blemish at all, I'm looking forward to sporting this bad boy this summer on my rides. I love finding and rescuing old items like this.

Is that a temporary thing?
He said he "will not be taking more orders for awhile because the cap business is just not working out." So maybe that's temporary but it sounds more like indefinitely to me. Either way, thought I'd mention it here, maybe we can drum up enough support to keep him going- but I gather that's unlikely

Jonathan Cordova and the other cap makers who have been featured on the forum make a quality product that can not be purchased anywhere else. When I was out having a tweed jacket fitted at a well known tailor early winter and I was wearing a Cordova Cap. We spoke glowingly about the cap. He examined it closely and was impressed. It is a sad day when Mr. Cordova has to devote his time to other pursuits to make a go of everyday living.
Agreed, a smaller market. But it is up to us "oddball" consumers to let our purchases speak for us - support the cap makers and hat makers. Can you imagine what your cap/hat wearing days would look like without these craftsmen/craftswomen?

No doubt about it. I could not imagine trying to maintain that hustle. Proof positive how lucky we are to be able to (when we we are able to) purchase these hand-crafted items (caps, jackets, wallets etc), made with countless times more love and craftsmanship than the dime a dozen stuff, and oftentimes at or below the dime a dozen pricepoint

I see more folks out wearing caps than I have in the past decade. How to get them to appreciate the quality of cap? How to inform them of the availability? A cap is not a cap.

Just heard the news and checked here about Johnny stopping making cap's. It's a sad day for me. I bought the first cap Johnny made for someone else. I encourage him to start making the caps an own over ten caps. I wear them daily to work or just running about town. Also get comments about how nice their are.
But life pressures can cause many art's to stop piling their art. An hope Johnny will come back to cap production in the future. [emoji3][emoji106]
