The leather sweat seems well attached to the reed. The reed tape needs to be sewn back to the body. I didn't study the photos but assuming the sweatband is still in good shape (The Fray sweatbands hold up remarkably well) the repair should not be that complicated.

Very true. I have repaired and resewn quite a few old original reeded sweatbands into hats. Whoever does the repair, has one shot to get it right because even though the leather may still be pliable, the natural reed tends to break fairly easily. SO the less times that sweatband is folded inside/out the better. I would recommend using basting stitches to secure the sweatband in place, then fold it out once and resew the reed tape to the body. Try to avoid sewing through the reorder tags and if it looks like they might be in the way, remove them carefully and re-glue using a standard hobby glue such as elmers school glue.

Hey Fruno...a couple of Daltons in that collection...:D

I hope the "health reasons" cited for the sale don't include scalp scabies or anything fungus-related.

Could be the seller of that hat collection is married...to a very bitter wife that wants him to get out of the hat scene and she flat out told him...."If you don't sell those damned hats, I'll brain ya with a frying pan"....thus for health reasons he is selling....

I just noticed this today. Very interesting collection, and I am admittedly interested in every homburg he's listed haha. Unfortunately, he seems pretty unwavering about selling the entire collection all at once, rather than piecemeal.

What's the story on this? Sweat replacement, conversion, factory error?

I was watching that too. I know there were some very early ORs with wider ribbons, but not this "Homburg" style. I think there are some ads posted either in the OR thread or the Stetson ads thread.

This is a real Frankenhat, though. My guess is some type of conversion. Didn't go for a bad price, either.

I was the second highest on that one, I was already making the hard decisions on which hats I was going to have to part with to make way for it.

Now I don't have to make those unfortunate decisions. And if the years watching ebay auctions has taught me anything, it's that anytime you think you think you've seen the best the bay has to offer something else comes along that quickly dispels that notion.

I thought you guys might get a laugh out of this. A $4 hat, with shipping from New York for $69.25. The seller has been selling on Ebay since...yesterday. Ya think???

He must've gotten the word. It reads $8.65 to Ohio for me right now.

Still wouldn't touch that hat with your head! :)
